Verstappen still a d**k

Not really news I know.

Courtesy of a minor bout of COVID I found myself watching the Azerbaijan F1 Sprint Race highlights. Russel and Verstappen exchanging minor damage. Now this is the first lap on a narrow street circuit and George has the inside line, on cold tyres he dings Max both make it to the end with the RedBull (unsurprisingly running away with it). Afterwards Verstappen goes across to Russel and swears copiously at him complete with pointing and the big "I am".

This is his entirely un-self-aware take on it
Verstappen accused Russell of lacking "common sense".

"They are off the pace and to take that much risk it is not very rewarding because I will get him anyway in the next few laps," Verstappen said.

"The potential to damage your car as well. Not only my car - I had a hole in my sidepod - but he could get a puncture and his race is over as well.
There's no more but you get the gist. And of course Whinger Spice is on the comms pumping up his already inflated ego.

Probably be a long time before I start watching F1 again, he's like a shrunken child-Trump wearing Nomex in some sort of reality show. Not sport any more.

Bloke is an obnoxious d**k.

Most champions are.
Max is.
Lewis was.
Schumacher was.
Senna was at times.
Hmmm, not really.

All obviously have an overwhelming belief in themselves but the childish tantrums and blaming everyone but himself is a Verstappen thing. Take todays incident. As he himself said he was in a faster car than George so why go side by side through tight corners rather than concede the place (George had the racing line)? Which as he said he could easily re take later in the race in his FASTER CAR. He does not see that the collision could have been avoided by accepting that George had the line and let him go. Max could have ended his race in the wall right there. It could have had implications for the main race tomorrow if there was significant damage. Now that is a bit of the racer "last of the late brakers" thing an error of judgement in the heat of the moment. As you said any of the above might have done the same.

But the outburst came at the end after he had finished in front of Russell.

Yes I agree with all that your saying but there have been similar examples of outbursts from the drivers I mentioned.

Perhaps odd ones but not the constant stream of tantrums.

He is a d**k and the irritating Whinger Spice is still making him worse.

As I said I now regret watching it, hey ho boredom can make mugs of us all.

Steiner's comments were illuminating. Basically said that the new aero rules haven't done anything to promote closer racing.
For me they need to get rid of the DRS system. It's made overtaking par too predictable, all the drivers do now is wait for a DRS zone to overtake and/or the subsequent corner after the zone to make a move. Drivers aren't really tested these days with attacking and defending.

The only thing the rule change actually achieved was removing Mercedes's dominance.

RedBull clearly has an ace up its sleeve with the DRS advantage they have & you can see everyone else on the grid is puzzled by it.

As for Max, unless he's out in front with no one challenging him then he's straight on the radio crying. Also, it's a bit rich when he's famed for throwing his car up the inside with no regard for the other driver.

Even with DRS there were very few overtakes today except the Red Bulls and the odd driver mistake.

F1 equivalent of Cristiano Ronaldo. Doesnt want respect, wants adulation.
Has certain characteristics that speak to his personality that are not nice (didnt want to take the knee, refused to condemn his father-in-law over racist comments, berates other drivers for challenging him, undermines his team mate).
Basically has a superiority complex which is currently at level 11 due to him driving the fastest car. Perez winning will be really hurting him. Good
