Villa bid for Morgan Rogers

I am surprised at the debate on here about this.
The lad cant get a game for us mid-table in the Champo. Jesus, if ever there was a chance for a forward to make his mark then it was with us, this season, given the fact that almost every striker we have has been laid up with injury.

If villa offer a decent fee then its an easy decision, isnt it?

I think he's played virtually every game he's been available for us since the end of November, and been very good in most of them. Have you been watching the right team?

Why would we get more for Rogers than we would for Spence and Tav

Make it make sense
Because Rogers’ ceiling is higher than both of those two players. Neither will play for England, whereas Rogers has the talent to win international recognition. I love Tav but Rogers has the potential to reach the very top level imo. Tav is probably at his level now. And Spence is a waster who will never beat his one good season at Forest.

Apparently Villa sticking to their £4m rising to£5m with add on’s. They feel they have turned his head and will get their man - loaned back to us for the season. Will the club take £4m to maybe bring in a striker in this window?
£4m is laughable for a team in the top 4 of the Premier League.

That’s 1/8th of what the average team spends on a squad filler right back.

Yes Rogers 100%. Ramsey is struggling to make an impression at Burnley. Villa sold him and yet want to buy Rogers. They obviously see who has the bigger potential. Most of us do too.

You'd think the sale of Ramsey to Burnley can only help us. They got £12m of the back of about 10 good games for us at this level. He didn't shine at Norwich. Plus of course Villa were open to selling.

If I was the club I'd be pointing to that and laughing at anything shy of that figure.

Some really staggering views on Rogers on here. Genuinely shocked at some of the comments!!

You could see within ten minutes of the lad stepping onto the pitch he was technically superb.

Yes he's raw, and has some ups and downs, but his potential is high.

That touch and lay off for the goal last week was beautiful. Technically superb. He has great feet, quick feet too, can beat a man, a football brain, vision. Will only improve.

Have to take bids over 10 m seriously 😂🤦

In today's market!!?!? You must be kidding. It's not just attributes you can coach like a holding midfielder spraying it side to side. It's creativity and vision And that costs.

English, young, genuinely talented footballer. Reminds me of Dele Ali when he was fresh on the scene.

It genuinely doesn't matter if the end product is not consistent yet, he has all the attributes and has shown in moments, certain games, runs of games that he is a game changer, that he has creative ability.

The hardest things to coach. The consistency comes with game time, development and age.

We shouldn't be considering anything under 20m in my opinion. Because IF he becomes consistent he's worth much more than that in 3-5 years time.

We took the chance on him. We are developing him and giving him an opportunity to make mistakes and improve.

We should then get the significant benefits of that.

Not a pathetic 5-10 profit 5 months later.

Thankfully the club have the same idea I hope with the rejected bid. Even in a years time if he continues how he's going now it's going to be 20m plus if they want him.

If they get offered that now fair enough there's a decision to make.

But not for ten million with a long contract where we can develop him another year and raise that value more without being pressured by a contract expiring.

That's all well and good , but , the club is a business.
It has to keep afloat, and to do that unfortunately by selling some talent most , if not every season.
If 10 mil came on the table, as a business, we'd HAVE to consider it .

I like Roger’s and it’s difficult to compare the two, but I’ve never seen him have a game as good as the 4/5 where Ramsey hit his peak. He has lots of positive attributes but he’s not yet close to the levels Tav, Traore or Akpom were when they left us. But all three of them had tricky starts and took years to come good.

Why would we get more for Rogers than we would for Spence and Tav

Make it make sense
Creativity. Chances he creates. Technical ability. What's his goals per game compared to Tav? Either way, type of player he is indicates his potential output in goals department is greater than Tav although Tav may have more at this point as Rogers only just playing regularly. Both hadn't proved anything at higher level so that parts equal.

Rogers is more of an out and out creater/attacking player compared to Tav being a more rounded midfielder with an attacking edge.

So Usually the Higher up the pitch/more creative you are the higher the value. Also a few years later so inflated fees compared to those transfers.

Spence was a good fee for his position. That's not a great fee for a young English creative attacking midfielder wanted by a club third in the premier league.

There's a few reasons.

There's absolutely no way we will Rogers for 4m up front, this is patently ludicrous. That's pennies in today's world. They'd have to offer a significant exchange player on top of that.
Leicester paid £8m for Tom Cannon, how could Villa expect to get Rogers for half that? It would be madness. They’d have to treble that £4m to even get so much as an opening negotiation going, surely.
