Villa bid for Morgan Rogers

Foot injury that’s mysteriously gone away in time to play for Australia?
But we know that he hasn't been able to train all season because of the injury. His fitness levels are not going to be ideal going into this tournament.

Would anybody complain at a deal such as £10m + loan back to us for the rest of the season?

There's some quality players further down the league we could potentially use the money on like Chair from QPR.

I wouldn't complain at £10m if the money is reinvested, but it won't be £10m - they're rumoured to have offered £5-6m - which isn't enough in my opinion.

The type of player Rogers is will be very hard to replace - Chair from QPR definitely isn't the answer.

I think the fact nobody has signed chair tells it’s own story.

If we get over £10million, we go & purchase Conor Chaplin & Morgan Whittaker

I'm not saying Morgan is currently "worth" £15m, £20m, £30m or £40m, but he might be one of those lower figures in the summer of 2024 and one of the higher figures in summer 2025. Nothing is guaranteed, but look at Gyokeres for example, Coventry wouldn't sell for £6m, £8m, £10m last summer, but got £20m this summer. 6 months later it is rumoured that Chelsea and Arsenal are interested at £70m+. In the current market, it makes no sense for us to accept a lowball offer for a player who's value is almost certain to keep rising, unless we actually think it won't go any higher.
That goes to show what a young player proving it at a higher level does to value.

Morgan Rogers hadn't really done much at Blackpool, but then he was out of position and very young in a poor team. Thus we got him for peanuts, possibly less than 1.5m.

He's starting to do it with us now. At least one team appears to value him at 6.5m+, so his value has increased 433% in just 6 months.

If he stays in the first team, continues creating and scoring, has a strong game vs Chelsea, we could easily see offers doubling in the summer to 13m.

If we get promoted, and he has a good season in the prem it could double again to the 25m+ mark

We need to have a view of what a players potential value in 2 years is, and it seems the club have that. The chances of him being worth less than this 6.5m offer in 2 years, seem negligible baring injury, so it would be a no from me.

Presumably the model relies on a big sale each year. Who do you sell instead?
It doesn't rely on a big sale every year, it relies on frequent sales to meet FFP and raise investment money.....although as was pointed out on an earlier thread on the clubs financial figures, we have potential to invest money from the owner at the moment (and with our debt being significantly reduced we are in a good position to take out loans) and we have sufficient FFP head room to use it. This year, I don't think we "need" to sell unless it's done to finance other signings. So the ball appears to be in our park. 10m offer comes in we could go and spend 10-15m if we choose on 3x 4-5m players and still be FFP compliant and have working capital.

The club will have a figure, and it's clearly significantly above 6.5mfair play

It feels a bit like Azaz was brought in as a replacement for Rogers..

I agree, but I don't think he's an improvement on Rogers.

He's a great player - but for me he's a player who needs to be alongside a player like Rogers - Luke Cundle was that man at Plymouth (just signed for Stoke).

If we do sell, Rogers needs to be replaced in my opinion.

Agree. It felt like we were stacked in those positions and I was a bit surprised we had signed a no10 before a striker especially with the injured players all coming back to fitness. It now makes sense.

One thing at stake here is that the club need to set a precedent for future transfers - we aren't pushovers and if you want our best players you'll have to pay for them.

If we sold Rogers (young, great potential, long contract) for relative peanuts then when it comes time to sell Hackney we can't then go demanding £30m.

Would they?

Would you look at 4 goals in 59 Championship games and be buzzing?

We've just signed Azaz who's scored 7 goals in 27 games from the same position.

For £2million!!!
stats I said, not one just goals scored stats!

top scorer in the league cup this year too, if you looking at goalscoring stats but that doesn't fit your narrative :sneaky:
