Villa have competition for Rogers

Don't care about getting him back in loan for the rest of the season but I hope he plays for villa and isn't sent straight back out on Loan somewhere like Leeds or Sunderland. Hope the lad does well though.

As others have said earlier - to be targeting top young players as a second tier team you have to show you will allow players a prem move if it comes along at a reasonable price.

I think Rogers might end up international level quality but think we would be wrong to hold him to ransom because we want to be attractive to other young players. Sadly we need to show we are a good shop window.

Use some money on a young striker to challenge Coburn/Lath.

He’s def getting loaned out they are buying an asset

A lot of talk about “tapping up”. I’ve not seen any evidence of that. Very easy for journalists to call the player’s agent or family to get a sense of what the player wants. Or they could just make it up. All Villa have done is make offers which they are perfectly entitled to do.

I personally think we should stand firm. Villa will be back in the summer. His value is only going up. If it gets to the point where we really can’t refuse, get Iroegbunam and Chambers thrown in on loan for the rest of this season with Villa paying their wages. We’re in a massive position of strength.

I'm not sure they will, they don't have a lot of players in reserve to play in a central attacking role, plus they're still in 3 competitions. I can see Rogers playing in some of he European games if he goes to Villa, and getting minutes in the league off the bench.
Rogers has already shown he can hold his own against Premier League teams, in the Villa and Chelsea games.

They are clearly feeding them given the details shown
You’re possibly (probably) right. But we’ll never know. I’ve read dozens of articles about this in the last few weeks. None of them written by Villa. All of them say the player wants the move.

Any number of reasons for this…

Tapping up.

Rogers (via his agent) trying to make it happen.

Journalists making it up, or just assuming (for the obvious reasons we all know) that Rogers would be keen.

Romano gave an interview to Linekar a few months back on his podcast. If he posts something it is usually credible - info normally coming from the player or agent directly.

Welcome to the model
This is the way it will be
We will never be allowed to develop anybody fully into a top player
Prem team watching will say aha Boro have a player developing but lets get him now cheap for us so we can add our own value
The offers will always come at bad times for us (late in windows)
and be unsettling for weeks to those fans that want to keep or want more money

Many, many clubs work under the same or a similar model. They don’t sell their talent after 6 months with 3.5 years left on the deal. Especially with 3 days left of the window. Blackburn and Sunderland have already showed they won’t be bullied into losing players now when they hold the cards.

You have to back your asset and the manager you’ve brought in to mould the talent to improve them and get an even bigger fee.

We will always be a selling club if bigger clubs want our players enough. Like league 1 and 2 teams will be selling clubs if we want their players enough.

Every club (outside the top 6 or 7) is a selling club. Even clubs like Spurs / Chelsea etc struggle to keep their best players if Real Madrid want them.

The trick is to recognise when you’ve got a good, young, improving, versatile, home grown player with years left on his contract. And not sell them too early or too cheaply.
