Villa have competition for Rogers

All depends how the club sees him progressing (obviously). Personally I think he could be a £25-30m player in 12 months. But the club will have a more valid option about that than mine.

In that scenario, it would be madness to sell him for half that amount now. Unless of course we desperately need the money immediately, either for FFP or to buy other targets.

If they don’t think he’s likely to be worth that, I’ll trust their judgement if they sell. But I’d be disappointed if we can’t negotiate a great price, plus either Rogers staying until the summer, or a player or 2 from Villa on loan as part of the deal. Plus a % sell on clause.

Depends on length of contract remaining to which I have no idea but he's a seasoned pro in this division and would be a great asset to the team.
Aye he’s a good player. I just think if we sold Rogers and asked Huddersfield for Thomas they’d say they want the Rogers money and then some. But as you say, it often comes down to contracts, FFP, etc. But I agree Thomas would be a good signing for Boro.

There's obviously a risk that we sell him, he gets into the Villa team and becomes a player worth 30m in a years time. However I think its just as likely he goes there, barely gets a kick in the first team and spends next season on loan in the Championship. I think there's a fear that because a Premier league team want him and are willing to pay a decent fee then he's going to be a future superstar, but I'd like to trust Carrick's judgement as well. If Carrick thinks we should take the money and move him on then I'm happy with it, he's watched Rogers far more closely than any Villa scout.

Villa can also afford to carry the risk more than we can. He flops and they lose £15m it's not the end of the world for them.

Whereas if he stays, doesn't kick on and we've turned down that money for him, it's a big mistake with a bigger impact for a club like ours.

If a broke club with no fans like Blackburn can afford to reject £18m for a player with less than 40 senior professional games under his belt, then we can afford to turn down less for a player who’s finally found his feet in our team and has represented England at various age levels.

Sunderland have the same model as us, they’re not selling Jack Clarke in this window they know it would be idiotic.

Sorba Thomas is very good, but he is not a goal scorer - 5 goals in 112 Championship games.

Certainly worth a offer of say £5m plus add ons.

But Sunderland paid circa 11m for Clarke so rightfully are looking for a bigger margin of profit and if that price was met, Clarke would be sold this month no doubt about it.

Boro have a price they are willing to accept for Rogers rightly or wrongly.

Let's just hope the deals are in motion to replace /utilise the income on a permanent basis.

I'm fairly convinced Rogers ' can ' go on to be a lower Prem / top champ player.
He could well be worth 20+ in 18month to 2 years.
I'd love to see him tighten his ball retention, get physically bigger and develop under Carrick.
However, that doesn't mean 15 million isn't good money right now.
Anyone asked would of swapped him for Azaz+O'Brien+ A n other in October.
If I had to hang my hat , RVDB and hackney will do more in their careers than MR
