Wales v England match thread

Let's get this started.

A Battle of Britain.

England play Wales in their final match of the World Cup group stage at 7pm tonight on BBC One.

England know that, barring a 4-0 defeat, they're through to the Round of 16.
Wales need to either beat England by 4 clear goals or win by any margin and hope that Iran and the USA draw.

England's last performance was turgid and dulled a lot of the enthusiasm after the win over Iran, so getting back on track with victory would help a lot.

Wales have been dreadful so far, but if there's one game that they'll up their game for, it's this one.

The Times are reporting that Kyle Walker and Jordan Henderson will be starting tonight, so Southgate is definitely making changes.

Seems fair enough when it's a squad game and we know that we're through barring a disaster.

Away from the England dynamic wales know if the US and Iran are drawing they just need to beat us to go through.

So if wales go one up with 10 to spare do we settle for qualification or do we chase the game trying to get a goal back.

Surely got to chase the game, it's still a derby.

Wales haven't beaten England since 1984, I'd sooner they didn't break that streak on the biggest stage.

Does Walker come back in a 3, if so I assume that means Saka getting dropped, or are sticking with a back 4 and resting Trippier?

We know that wales have nothing to lose really and that they will fight right up to the last second.

I think the plan has always been to have Walker fit for the potential quarter final against France. Its a game where we'll likely need him as a third centre back to go up against Mbappe.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him there tonight if he is fit and we go back to Southgates preferred 5-2-3, that makes the announcement that Henderson will replace Bellingham more logical as well to give the team the 2 defensive midfielders that usually play in that system.

That system is obviously a lot more defensive and while we might need to go like that in a potential quarter final against France it might be a bit of overkill against Wales. For that reason I'd play Trent tonight at RWB if we are playing the 5-2-3.

Went to concert in Wales over the weekend(Paul Heaton, Jacqui Abbott)..3000 Welsh fans singing this ,Iv to got to say I was bit jealous, blown away!

Wales have 1 good game in them which they haven't played yet. If Bale is thinking "I'm going out with a bang" and England start getting frustrated, I wouldn't be surprised if Wales ground out a scrappy win.
Watching Wales is like watching the Boro at times

I think the main question for me is whether he rests Kane or not.

Thought he played really well against Iran, poorly against USA, and his foot is probably still sore.
With qualification all but secure, it might be seen as a risk to play him.

Personally, I'd start him, as we still do need a result, and it'd be good for him to get off the mark with a goal, but I'd give Wilson a solid chunk of the second half.

Well given that they need to win by 4...
