Warnock on Roberts

wing and roberts in midfield haha they are both terrible. roberts has offered nothing since hes been here i have no idea what people see and that includes last season. Those who say he needs games he was outshone in his last start by a lad who hasnt played in over a year.

Wing cant read the game and is so slow its unbelieveable, unless he bangs a 30 yarder in he offers nothing either.

As someone says the longer a player is out of the team they seem to become maradona.

We are missing dijksteel massively not only in defence but calmness on the ball.
I don't think Muttley or anyone else for that matter is raving about Roberts and certainly not Wing, but the summary above was good.
Tav is exhausted and off form.
Morsy is unfit and off form.
Howson is injured.
Saville is ponderous and off form.

we do need that bit of creativity, but we've also let in 8 goals in 4 games. Maybe now isn't the right time to drop him into the side. Hope Dijksteel is back soon and Howson's injury is minor

Wing has shown nothing this year but in the past we have seen him contribute. Why can this magnificent man manager not get the best out of Wing when he has transformed Bola, Dijksteel and others?

As stated above I did not have a problem with Wing and Roberts being sidelined when we were functioning effectively. That has not been the case since the last International break. If it achieves nothing else it rests two players who are either out of form or carrying knocks. If we persist without resting players they will break down and then we will be without them for several games not just one.

In a one off game I don’t see why Wing can’t come in to see how he fairs. If he’s ***** he is easily droppable again. Howson might be injured and is playing through pain according to Warnock. Saville has been poor and out of sort in last 4 games, and Morsy has looked unfit. So I see no reason why Wing can’t come in and see what he can do, like I say if he’s crap he’s an easy player to drop again. But let’s not pretend our midfield was good last night or at the weekend because it wasn’t.
Seriously, is Wing any worse than Saville? Both slow, both can't tackle, one can't pass the ball forward and more than 5 yards and one always looking for a positive ball. I am certain that if Wing had started the number of games Saville had our goals for column would be a lot healthier.

It seems to me that Warnock didn't sanction his move and doesn't really want him. He had him last season so knew what he could and couldn't get out of him, so why sign him and not play him and insinuate you don't trust him? He clearly didn't want him, but when you are shipping 3 goals in consecutive games by playing pragmatically, then you may as well play him and take off the handbrake

It seems like it's all unraveling a bit at the moment.
This is where Neil earns his crust can he turn this run of pretty sh1t results around?
Roberts or no Roberts we have to win the next few games no questions asked.

Saville is a much better footballer than Wing, they're not even close in terms of footballing ability.

Agree with Rico, the only reason I’m saying is bring Wing in is just because he will be chomping at the bit. Saville slightly out of form and a rest/tactical change will have him chomping at the bit to get back in.

flip side is we would probably have let more in because Wing is poor at delaying opposition, denying space and getting along the passing lines to deflect and intercept. Tackling is an over stated skill, it's the least important part of defending. Good defenders rarely need to tackle.

Yeah I agree with that. They are both bang average, but we are desparate for things to happen at the front end of the pitch and I think Wing offers more in that area than Saville. I do think though that Warnock does not fancy Wing and Roberts and their time In the team is gonna be limited to 10 minute cameos.

Wing definitely isn't a Warnock type player. He wants central midfielders to be good without the ball firstly, intelligently limiting the opposition chances to look up and play. I don't mind Wing with the ball at his feet but he's tactically and positionally naive beyond belief (Northern League up bringing?)

I'm happy to be corrected but hasn't the pattern been Roberts is at his most effective when he's started games, and next to anonymous or had little impact when brought on as a sub?

Might be Warnock's frustration that we're in December, following international breaks and he's still not up to speed to be fighting for a starting place?

I doubt he'll go back to City with still so many games to play following this ridiculously busy December.

I think he just needs to swallow some pride and play him for a couple of games.

How much impact can anyone have when only brought on in desperation for the last 10 minutes?

I dont for a minute think NW didnt want him, you cant save ateam from certain relegation, which included Roberts in those games then decide you dont want him only for someone to bring him in regardless, no there will be another reason, other than not wanting him here, we'll find out in january if he goes back to City
