Warnock pleased to get the respect from 'good humoured' Hatters fans but felt Boro were on the wrong end of two refereeing decisions

Forgive me if Im being over-critical, or at risk of verging on being personal, but when I first read this it appeared that the journalist may have sugar-coated the apparent praise heaped on Hatters fans by Neil Warnock. Havinging read it two or three times more, I get a picture of a game where poor refereeing decisions, a denied penalty or two, not getting the "rub of the green" and being too "nice" and we would have won the game at a canter?!

But read a little further and we werent "physical" enough, didnt have the right mentality and couldnt defend or play good football?! Well hit my ars with a feather! If only the players knew how crap they were, how crap the ref and the linesmen were,.........................we would be Real Madrid!

Just where is there any acceptance of responsibility or even faint acknowledgement that the performance may have been something to do with "tactics" and "management"? Its happened too many times already to blame individual errors - or a collective cok-up. True - some players could turn up with one leg missing and still get picked - but whose responsibility is that?

Have I been looking through a long lense and seen a different season, or is it that Management [all of them - coaches - staff-etc] are covering themselves in cam-cream and under cammo-nets to hide and fade into the back-ground. Im sure Im not the only one, but this is bewildering for me. The tin hat and trench coat with over-shoes an body - armour are already prepared for West Brom. ;@((

Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock hailed the 'good humoured' Luton supporters for their reaction to his milestone match at Kenilworth Road last night, although felt his side should have been walking away with the three points.

After going down to a 3-1 defeat, and seeing assistant Kevin Blackwell, a former Town boss himself jeered off, the home supporters began by taunting Warnock has he headed for the tunnel.

It then quickly turned to rousing applause though, with the 72-year-old, who was taking his 1,602nd English Football League game, a new record, reciprocating the gesture, as speaking afterwards, Warnock said: “It (Kenilworth Road) is a good football ground, places like QPR, this, I love the atmosphere like that.

“I’ve come away, we've lost the game, three simple goals we've given away and yet it's a game I think we should have won so it's disappointing for me on two fronts.

"I think they (Luton fans) respect me.

"They've always given me stick here, most places do, and I always give them stick back if I can, so I don’t mind that all.

"There's not enough good humoured like that around the place and you saw the reception I got, probably because we lost though.

"We haven’t got that nastiness that they’ve got, that little bit of what you need in the Championship. We’re quite a nice team if I’m honest.

“Play decent football, should have won the game tonight but when you’ve got to be physical and you’ve got to defend and you’ve got to have that mentality, we haven’t got enough of that."

After seeing the visitors lead through Josh Coburn on 16 minutes, Warnock felt his side should have had a penalty when Isaiah Jones went over the challenge of Dan Potts in the area.

Replays showed the Boro attacker dangle his legs into the Town full back's to win the contact, with referee Tim Robinson rightly rejecting the appeals.

After the break and with Luton now 3-1 in front through quickfire goals from Sonny Bradley, Elijah Adebayo and Harry Cornick, Jones once again caused problems to the home defence, with Fred Onyedinma bringing him down for what looked like a spotkick, only for Robinson to rule the incident happened outside the box.

A frustrated Warnock added: "I think the linesman overruled the referee on Isaiah Jones.

“Then in the second half, I think it’s a penalty.

"He’s outside the box and he gives it which is an easy cop out really but he gives Isaiah advantage.

"The advantage takes you into the box and then he’s fouled, so it’s a penalty.

"But we didn’t seem to get any rub of the green tonight.

“The linesman over the far side who didn’t give the Isaiah Jones penalty, I don’t think he’s ever given us anything when I’ve seen him.
"I’ll not miss him when I retire.”

I'm way past done with him. He is one of the worst managers we've had for having favourites who can do no wrong and it seems that every half time team talk affects the side negatively.

No mention at all of how badly we played in the second half compared to the first.

The Northern Echo are over-generous with their ratings by a point in each case.

BORO XI:

6 Daniels – Conceded three in five minutes. Not much he could do but didn’t help the cause.

5 Dijksteel – Looked out of sorts at right centre-back. Perhaps not reached match fitness.

7 Bamba – Brilliant in the first half but played his part in more quickfire goals.

6 McNair – Had a great first half and could only do so much to keep out the second blocking the initial effort.

6 Howson – Kept things ticking over in the midfield but struggled in the second half.

5 Crooks – Lost his marker for the first goal and got booked meaning he’s suspended for West Brom. A bad night.

5 Tavernier – Inadvertently slipped in Cornick for the third goal and decision making was off again.

6 Hernandez – Tried to make things happen with his skill and pace but was subbed again in the second half.

7 Jones – A good performance from the youngster. Always looked a threat on the right hand side.

7 Coburn – Did really well under the circumstances and got his goal on what will have been a special night.

6 Sporar – Set up Coburn’s goal but was once again feeding off scraps. A game of few chances for the Slovenian.

Subs:

6 Watmore 68’ – Provided some energy but could do little to get Boro back into the game.

N/A Lea-Siliki 77'

N/A Kokolo 83’
