Warnock reveals secret behind Watmore signing and how it almost didn't happen [Gazette]

Ref Warnock

I never 100% believe what he says when is telling a story - He is a natural story tellers there is always an element of entertainment and biging himself up. Did people always believe what Cloughie said? But people remembered what he said, because of the spin he put on it which in his case, could be very cutting. Both of them were no shrinking violets neither.

Ref Watmore

I agree a top signing for a free. It must have been hard to analyse him on a computer programme because he missed so many games. Taking someone injury hit on a short contract seemed a very sensible move, a sort of long practical interview.

Ref analysing forwards with a computer

What would the software make of Bernie Slaven in 1985 - great strike record with lower Scottish League.

The 'warnock players' are so obvious to me. Bamba / Crooks / Uche / Watmore / Peltier. The rest? I'm really not convinced.

You'd have have to say we got more than our moneys worth out of all of the above.
Add in Morsey who was bought and sold for a small profit.

what miracles? At best he did average with an average squad. Not exactly pulling up trees is it?
Eh ?????????
We were a fcuking shambles when woodgate but the sack and we were screaming into league one ffs !
I’m not a massive supporter of warnock but Jesus wept, I’ll credit him with single handedly organising us and instilling confidence and belief in a disparate bunch of players at that time and so I believe he did a fantastic job keeping us up!

Regards Warnock players: what about the Ameobi scenario?
He arrived - (apparently) got injured and eventually left - without so much of a "The club would like to thank him and wish him all the best........"?

We were a shambles because of Woodgate. Yes of course Warnock did a good job stabilising things. But miracles?

A good job is so unfair Wilko

I’d probably concede he didn’t create a miracle but at that time and with our available options being extremely narrow warnock came here and did a wonderful job.
The next phase is always going to be disputed because(!) he wanted to do something in his way and Gibson didn’t fully buy into it.
I’m pretty confident that had Gibson backed wornocks plans for the types of players he wanted we’d be in the playoffs and quite possibly promoted but with a team of players unlikely to cut it in the premiership because of the different requirements of the premiership.
That would mean a complete overhaul of players who were suited to the premiership and significant investment that quite probably Gibson didn’t want to risk.

Warnock did his job and fulfilled his brief by keeping us up.
Job done
