We seem to have stopped bringing it out into the middle of the field and creating overloads...

Are the limitations of our squad being exposed or are the opposition just putting blocks in our way? McNair seems to have stopped carrying it out in the middle third and linking up with Bola and/or Taylor in an attacking sense. Whenever we get it to Jones he's surrounded but there doesn't seem to be a spare man any more, which was the case a few weeks back. The service into our strikers has really started to suffer as a result. We've started playing a LOT of long balls, most of them apparently aimless punts.

Take Watmore's shot out today and all four of them were anonymous. As was Crooks.

Are we tired? Or are just about, roughly, hitting par for what we have to call upon personnel wise? One win off 6th with a game in hand. A few tidy bits of business away from really challenging for the top two places next year if we don't make the playoffs and win them.

It was mainly due to Daniels kicking it long every time he got it, I can't recall us ever playing out once?

The forwards hardly had a touch, especially in the first half.

You need some physicality up top to get out this division imo. We don't have any apart from Coburn who doesn't start...

Maybe that was a sacrifice we had to make today. No playing out from the 'keeper, just do the basics and hope Jones or Tav can make something happen at the other end.

In a wider sense, I was just interested in what people thought about our style of play. I wonder whether our tight squad has caught up with us a bit? Or the fact we've been so heavily reliant on everything coming down the right hand side. The balance isn't quite what it was a few weeks back and teams are just blocking us off. It's not that long back since we seemed really quick at working the ball down the right and quickly switching the play when teams moved over.

We were really good at moving the ball around quickly and making angles and spaces. But it's not quite as fluid at the moment.

I've felt for a while that we look jaded and a bit short and I think CW set us up not to get beat today, but Monday is a different proposition as we need to win, to draw Huddersfield back to within reach.

I think we done exceptionally well given the size of our squad, but maybe the play offs are just a bit too much for us this season.

Hopefully Pajero will play Monday, looking forward to the game.

Bola had a bit of a mare in the first half today which restricted what we did on the left.

We need to get Djkesteel linking up on the right with Jones, D is dangerous and strong, have Howson do some defensive cover for him when he pushes forward. Opposing teams can struggle to cope with marauding centre halves.

Play Coburn he is more likely to get something on the ball when high balls are played forward which is necessary to do at times. We have nimble players who can play off him so he compliments others for me.

We are sloppy, gone has the attacking intent ie the intention to score. Emphasis is placed on circulation the ball in the final third, slowly building up play.. creating more attacking opportunities.

we’re just going through the motions, Wilderball by numbers. We need to freshen things up! Throw a free more ideas in to the mix. Our strikers certainly aren’t flourishing with it.

I remember watching some of our goals earlier in the season shortly after CW took over and when the goals were scored we would often have 5 or 6 players in the oppositions box. That doesn't seem to happen now. That could be down to energy levels or a change in tactics.

We’re in the attack pushing forward, towards goal.. the switch flips in to Wilderball and the sloppy pass goes to the side we struggle to control, sloppy pass, sloppy pass until we lose possession or the goal scoring opportunity we take is far inferior to one before Wilderball kicked in.

I think we’ve stopped “emptying the midfield” as much as we used to.

Crooks and Tav stay in their centre mid roles a bit more, rather than creating overloads out wide and overlapping / underlapping the wing back.

I said to my mate before kickoff that we wouldn’t be doing much passing out from the back today given we’re starting Daniels and Bamba, but I did notice we were doing this towards the end of the first half, when we played our best football.

Payero won't be match fit. I imagine he'll join from the bench for a few games, a bit like Bola did when he replaced Taylor. I expect it to be McGree, Tav and Howson on Monday.

Not entirely true. Daniels played ishort on more than a couple of occasions. I think one of the issues lies with Crooks who just isn't getting on the ball as he used to and feeding balls wide to Jones and and overlapping Dijksteel. He is definitely cooked (either that or his confidence seems to have taken a hit) and will benefit from this enforced 3 game rest.

Despite all the hate for Lumley the style will change with Daniels in goal.

That's the very reason Lumley has been playing. He's better with his feet and quick distribution. Like it or not... He is.

Daniels is like a 'normal' keeper. He was catching the ball and falling on it before kicking after 10-20 seconds. A better pair of hands yet not what Wilder would want from a keeper.

Again I'm guessing this is why he's not been playing despite Lumleys many errors.

You can't just make a keeper good with his feet through coaching. Especially when they have played one way for a whole career. I said that about Lumley. He's being asked to do things he's probably never done in 20 years as a keeper. Althiugh that doesn't distract from letting in howlers.

Interesting replies. The consensus seems to be we look a little bit jaded. Maybe having McGree and Payero out for a while each hasn't done Tav and especially Crooks good as we haven't been able to freshen things up when needed and we've started to run out of steam. I think McNair looks a bit jaded as well really. I suppose, as well, you'd factor in the lack of goals from the forwards and how their confidence must've gradually ebbed away so they begin to overthink and second guess themselves in terms of runs, movements, angles, etc. It isn't coming naturally or flowing at the minute.

You'd also say that teams will scout us and know that if you stop Jones you're a long way to keeping us in check. That's where the lack of squad depth and a couple of untimely injuries come in, I suppose.

Yes, but it was noticeable that he kicked it long fast more often than I've ever seen is so it under CW. Maybe it was to play for s point, but I suspect its more to do with Daniels.

Crooks is one that's looked of it for a while, but hopefully Payero will come in on Monday and do well, because without Crooks we struggle to score goals from elsewhere.

I agree that Crooks has looked jaded, so now he gets a 3 game rest ready for the run in, and a fit and hungry Mcgree takes his place and adds the missing energy.
Perfect timing, in Riley I trust .👍🏻
