We seem to have stopped bringing it out into the middle of the field and creating overloads...

Burnout, from adopting the pressing game without having enough players? Also, if you have only one way of playing, they eventually work it out.
That's just it though, we didn't only have one way of playing when Wilder arrived. We haven't really seen that aggressive high press very much of late, it's been much more patient from us. We had the high press, and the overloads and quick switches of play when in possession, but it's not quite flowing as it was. There was a moment yesterday where we really pushed Bournemouth back on one of their goal kicks and forced them to play long but other than that, there was nothing in terms of boxing them in.

We also had an attack before half time where we must've had seven men ahead of the ball. That was a common feature of our play a few weeks back but it's gradually ebbed away. Maybe it is just a bit of tiredness and whatnot, as has been said. I think as well we forget there was a Covid outbreak and some of the players' energy levels and performances haven't been the same since then. Crooks, for one, but Sporar has been off it since that time. Who knows.

But it's in our own hands. I'd love to see us smash into Huddersfield on Monday in front of a packed crowd because I think they're there for the taking, having watched most of their game yesterday.

Also, I noticed this yesterday and have seen it a fair bit of late - when the cameras go to Wilder, the number of times you see him telling the players to play forwards. I'm not sure we're doing what he wants them to do in terms of attacking play and aggression, imposing ourselves on the opposition. He did seem quite agitated after the game yesterday as well. It's interesting.

How we play on Monday will be interesting; will it be a performance on the front foot, a high tempo and one that looks to overwhelm Huddersfield, or will it be slow, a bit disjointed and one where we end up trying to grind out a result?

I do think we played it safe deliverability yesterday,it seemed pretty obvious to me that CW was protecting the point, more than pressing for three.

But Mondays game is much mote important because a win draws Huddersfield back within reach.

That's sort of what I mean though; he's telling them to attack and play forwards and they're not really doing it as he wants them to. Maybe some of them aren't capable and will be replaced in the summer and he's gradually realising this and working out what he's going to need to do when it comes to reshaping his team. It might be a tougher job than he thought?

Which is sort of... where my panic about this Burnley stuff comes in. And then you remember it's in our own hands and we could quite conceivably go up this season. It's that time of year I suppose. We haven't had a nervy run in for a few years.

I don't think it would do his reputation any good at all to move to Burnley, or any other club for that matter, so soon into his boro contract.

So even if he was tempted I think he would know it wouldn't be a smart move for him.

I think we'll have a really good go at Huddersfield, pretty sure Balogun will start, most likely with Connolly and either McGree or Payero will come in for Crooks (I thought it would be McGree, but he specifically mentioned Payero when asked).

Whether we go up or not there will be lots of comings and going this summer, at boro, not Burnley that is!

I was thinking about the comings and goings yesterday morning. The list we have is quite something really.

Lumley, Daniels, Stojanovic, Fisher, Hall, Peltier, Bamba, Taylor, Ameobi, Ikpeazu, Siliki, Spence, Connolly, Sporar, Balogun. All of those players are out of contract, not playing and/or contributing or out of favour, on loan, or already elsewhere and will be moving on. That's quite a big number to be moving out at any one time.

He seemed p*ssed off about Crooks' 15th booking yesterday, quite rightly really. Would he move Crooks on? There might be others he might want to shift. It's a big summer, even though I actually think we only need a handful of good additions to really make a concerted push for the top two if we don't go up this year.

I don’t think he would.. but it’s a funny owld game. A 101 things could be going on in the background.. Burnley might have always been the dream? Gibbo might fancy the compensation? I don’t think it’s the right club for.. anyone at the moment. Such a weird decision to make. Similar to us with Karanka, but at least there was some different players in there and Karanka’s stamp hadn’t been forged in the fire. A few managers could have done a job for us..

I don’t see that with Burnley.

Our midfield has had no relief whatsoever. McGree and Payero have not been able to lighten the load and the three fixtures look tired.
Crooks/Jones axis was crucial, but it has been disrupted and will be for the next three key matches.

Playing Connolly means there is a huge pressure on whoever the partner is. There simply has to be more chances created again and the few created actually taken. And quickly.

Interestingly I think Bamba is more progressive with his passing than the other three currently are. It's whether his body can hold up.

Wilder would be mad to go to Burnley, absolutely mad.

The summer window is massive. Given so many players will be moved on one way or another, the core of the team will be retained and refreshed (hopefully with upgrades

Brynn McNair, Fry, Dijksteel, Jones, Bola, McGree, Crooks, Tav, Boyd-Munce, Payero, Josh, Watmore.

I suspect Daniels may even stay as a no2 and I hope Howson and Pelts get an extension.

The Spence money will help replenish the squad along with a few astute buys, free’s and loans or even someone from the U/23’s coming across maybe

Goalkeeper
CB x 2
LWB
RWB cover
DCM
Pacy mobile strikers x 3

9 players in plus those above gives us a squad of 25
