What do you want from government?

It is coming round to that time when we will have wall to wall election coverage. As usual there will be arguments which so often are simply 'I am not voting for that lot'. I have started to ask myself the question above. Might be theoretical and I realise that some things are difficult to quantify, but in no particular order, my priorities -

1) a commitment to correctly funded public services
2) a govt that supports innovation and entrepreneurship and has a credible economic plan
3) a govt that protects the most vulnerable in society
4) a govt that seeks alliances over arguments on the international stage
5) a govt that takes climate change seriously
6) a govt who is honest, both in their dealings behind the scenes but also with the public plus a return to decency in public office
7) a government with a genuine interest in improving the lives of everyone in the country

So what is important for you? I will probably find I have missed some things here.

Governing the country, for the people, not using a ministerial role as a way to get rich quick.
This is it in a nutshell. I'd probably just stick "competently" at the front.

No more vested interests, no donors influencing policy.

Just intelligent people listening to experts and making evidence based decisions with the sole objective of improving the lives of the people of the country as a whole.

We need to totally rethink our approach to governing and improving our society, which will take a long time just to get the proposals agreed.

We need to take some of the institutions that are for the good for us all, out the political arena. Instead we should have cross all parties including independent minorities agreeing on a stepped improvement and progression.
It will only improve things and not rob from one department to benefit another.

The NHS.
Education.
FE.
Policing.
Prison and reform.
Utility provision.
Transportation.

We have another house section "The Lords" that relies on old heads, experience and common sense to stop the ideology driven political fruitcakes from destroying what's good we try to build on.

This house imho should have a personnel change, and perhaps filled with experts with a working background (not titled salesmen), know the game and will ensure the facilities, advantages we possess are fit for purpose and progress and can future proof.

The last few years have shown a lot of the MPs are nothing but accredited blockheads, who seem to be allowed into different Govt departments without any experience or knowledge of the said industry, but in lot of cases are filled with greed, bigotry, hatred with a dash of sexual perversion chucked in.

In other words we draw MP`s from a poor well and the standard is becoming worse, so in turn is the country.

I also think the way political parties think and operate is so often dictated by the election cycle of 4-5 years, whereas the biggest topics have life cycles which are way, way longer than that.

It's telling/depressing that the unelected upper chamber, including hereditary peers, bishops and idiots appointed by PMs as a pat on the back, as a whole seem more measured and sensible than the elected chamber.

Obviously the tories have gone down the route of selecting people to stand as MPs based on ideology rather than intelligence, experience or capability which doesn't help.

In the past I might not have agreed with tory policies, but they at least had enough relatively competent MPs to call on to fill cabinet positions.

Peace.

Food.

Homes.

Renationalisation of all utilities and those industries that are in the national interest.

how we get there or what waffle and lies they use or say on the way - get used to it - Parliament has been doing that everyday since Cromwell, it aint gonna change.

I agree with this because as we’re seeing at the moment self preservation is more important than the country’s needs
They're not even really trying to pretend otherwise right now.

The electorate should punish them further for it. Remains to be seen if it'll be a factor though.
