What Ever Happened To...

I dont take my old wooden rattle to the games any more just in case it gets confiscated!
Painted it red and white. What a noise it made but tuneless!

I had the old Cellnet miniature kit hanging up in my old Nova SR. I started seeing a girl from Gateshead and every time I stayed over, my car would get keyed overnight. I’ve never had anything that ties me to a particular area on my car since. I even remove the garage sticker if it says Middlesbrough.

It was an 80s 'satnav'. You used to regularly drive into a city and just follow the first car who had a scarf flying or a football shirt on.

The chances are they were lost or you hoped the Red scarf wasn't someone going to watch UTD or Liverpool 😂
We did exactly this in 80s in Bradford but the car in front had a Bradford scarf so we followed him.
He pulled up outside some flats ,we got out and asked which way to the ground.
He replied your miles away ,he told us he was going to his mams for lunch before going to game 😂

Seen that photo in "Ayresome Angels" book Erimus. I'm sure that is me in the middle of the second row in the blue top, with said mate to my right as you look

Flying scarves from car windows on the way to a match? Early 90's saw us regularly making a 350 mile round trip to home games (away games were easier though!) and one way of passing the time was spotting fellow Boro fans making their way North, scarves flying on the wind - these were pre-DAB and podcast days, of course. Doesn't seem to happen any longer, which I think is a bit of a shame.
Last time I really remember it being a big thing was the Carling cup final. We went down the day before and there were hundreds of cars and minibuses travelling down covered in scarfs, small banners and traffic tape, the red and white stuff. We pulled into the first service station on the M42 and the car park was absolutely heaving with Boro supporters. The cars without any visible red and white were the small minority. A great start to the best weekend of my life, football wise obviously.
