We don’t really have any genuine wing backs available.

We’ve only got one fit striker.

even though I don’t really like Barlaser and O’brien as a centre mid pairing, I don’t see many better options than 4231

5-3-2/3-5-2 should make us more solid at the back without changing the style of play too much.
The other thing for me is not to play players out of position. I don't want the U21 players thrown in at the deep end for no reason just to give them a go, but if it means playing for example a natural RB from the U21 set up as a RB rather than a CB from the first team playing RB or even worse an injured player playing I would rather that happen. I'm not talking about throwing a 16 year old into it either, if you look at the under 21 squad a lot of the players are 20/21/22, so similar age to first team players who have been played out of position due to injuries.
It just seems like common sense to me or what is the point of having an academy.

Luckily for the footballing world I'm not A manager so my opinion means nothing 😂.

I'd drop Azaz into midfield, where he played at Plymouth, and use McNair as a sitting midfielder.

I don't like McNair playing in that role but would still prefer that to Barlaser starting.

Dieng

Ayling
Fry
VDB
Engel

McNair
O'Brien
Azaz

Forss
McGree

There's nothing wrong with the formation. It's the way we play it that is the problem. If the players aren't good enough to play it 6 from the back then stop trying to force it to happen and accept that we might need to do something else. We've got no pace so slow, patient build up is probably our best bet. We're not very good defensively either so we need to be a bit more solid. A lack of striker but mobile players behind means we're really relying on quick interchange of passing which is difficult against teams that sit deep.

All of this would be easier if we had better players. There isn't a formation or way of playing that would have this group of players playing well enough to be challenging at the top of the league.

The formation isn’t the main problem. The lack of mixing it up is killing us. Our success against Leicester was built on a quicker turn over.

We should be passing it out sometimes but also mixing it up with channel balls. This would make us much harder to defend against. At the minute we have a slow build up every time which is too predictable.

Glover is a big part of the problem as Dieng has a mixed up range of passing that he doesn’t have. Look at our goal at Watford for how we can best the press with Dieng.

Agree with that, our tempo and movement is horrendous, a lot of the time it looks like we're deliberately waiting for teams to get back into their defensive shape, before we start our slow short passing side to side, praying someone takes the ball off me, takes responsibility and tries to make something happen manoeuvre.

Unfortunately the players who did that were Giles, Akpom, Archer, Ramsey & McGree last season in the main. This season they have been Crooks, Rogers & Jones and a bit from McGree.
