Bit of a myth this apparently. They often leave large parts of their prey uneaten, but that's just because they eat only the most nutritious parts.
For instance they have been known to kill a Great White Shark and eat only the liver, as it's the most calorific bit. Now that's a hard bastad.

You do hear of bears sometimes backing down if someone fights back.

I wouldn’t fancy accidentally stumbling anywhere near a Hippos territory. Ridiculously aggressive and can literally bite you in half. Are they still at Pablo Escobars old gaff?
