Who is the worst courier service and why is it Evri?

Last winter I ordered a laptop online. I was home all day that it was due to be delivered , no sign of the parcel. No ring on the doorbell all day.

That evening it was absolutely tipping down with rain. I log into my emails to see whether there was anything about my missing parcel, and there was an email saying that it had been delivered. I check my porch - no parcel, no card saying that it has been left with a neighbour or left behind the bin etc.

Next day, when leaving the house I spot a disintegrating sodden cardboard box underneath a small bush in my garden. Yay - my laptop did arrive yesterday after all.

Thankfully the seller had wrapped it completely in bubble wrap. Otherwise the thing would be been completely ruined.

Yodel IIRC
They didn’t go out on a limb for you, that’s for sure! (or did they).

Our Evri driver is good.

Parcelforce have been my nemesis. They have lost/broken (usually broken) so many things of mine I lost count. On one occassion they delivered a Canon lens that had been serviced back to me. It was Special Delivery ... into my dustbin, on collection day. Thankfully I got home to find the "Your parcel in in the bins" note before the binmen arrived. It was only a £700 lens, of course.

I do a little bit of part time work for evri, the company are dreadful to work for but its a easy bit of workbthat suits me.
The main problem is the pitance they pay results in some drivers having to fly round just to make it pay.
Compsines should just charge customers a extra 50p that goes to the driver so he can take his time and ensure the parcels arrive in good time but people seemvto want their deliveries for next to nothing.
And some customers are a nightmare , but thats a story for another thread i think 😁

It's one of the reasons Amazon is so well liked (for their service at least!)

Trackable deliveries which are normally delivered successfully or with the instructions followed. I guess it helps we have a delivery probably every day from them!

Amazon drivers are ***** in billingham they leave pparcels on doorstep leave on drives anywhere really I am always putting there parcels in safe place and leaving a note for customers to tell them I’ve moved them

Not really getting why you'd blame the general public for the fact that a gigantic global organisation with £11bn annual revenue don't pay their staff properly. I imagine most 'customers' just want the thing delivered on the day they've asked for the price they've agreed.

I have heard some horror stories about Evri, but my personal experience has been good, the only issue I had once was an item delivered on a Monday that was due Friday before., but that happens with them all occasionally as far as I can tell.

DPD are my avoid at all costs. I have had 3 deliveries from them. First time all was good. Other twice, one item was placed by my front door for the world to steal, the other was placed in my blue bin that was at the edge of my drive awaiting emptying and a note put through my door. Thankfully I returned home in time.

I complained about the bin drop and the company said it was their policy never to leave items in bins. I photographed the note put through my door and sent it to them as requested. I heard nothing back and after further contact initiated by me was told that the writing on the note was not their drivers !!! Quite remarkable.

I can't remember which companies were responsible, but during covid my wife's eternity ring was placed on the doorstep while we were out, and the same day a small consignment of paper cups we'd ordered had to be taken back to the depot because they had to be signed for.

I didnt , i blame evri who i said are a awful company to work for, but if your ordering something thats free delivery or a pitance thenbthe service will reflect that, it's cheap delivery because the driver is flying round trying to make it pay.
Also customers often code the parcels smaller/lighter than they really are to save 50p at the couriers expense

Officially parcels shouldn't be left in blue bin but many customers ask for that, a decent courrier should know bin day

Yes customers do ask for parcels to be left in bins and blue boxes but I know Friday is bin day so not to agree some couriers don’t give 2 hoots but I care for my customers packages

When you order something that’s “free delivery” the item should be delivered exactly in the way you’ve agreed in your purchase.

Companies will usually price in the cost of delivery when they set the prices for items, so what you “pay for delivery” is absolutely irrelevant.

Usually items that are more expensive will come with “free delivery” ie they will absorb the cost of delivery themselves to make it seem more attractive to the buyer.

Are you saying if you buy a Ferrari and they promise “free delivery” that you shouldn’t be angry if it turns up with a wing mirror missing and a scratch on the door because you selfishly took them up on their “free delivery” offer? Give over mate!

No your not grasping whst iam saying, if you buy some tat for 1.49 and its free delivery what sort of delivery service are you expecting?
You get what you pay for.
Iam talking about the time and effort your courier will take over delivering your parcel.
Thsts why people pay extra for NDD, pick a time slot, extra for a weekend delivery etc
Oh and the person delivering your ferrari isnt getting 80p , plus it wouldnt fit in his van 😉

Seriously. F***ing Evri. Not the first time this has happened, and the worst thing about buying online with certain companies is not being able to choose your preferred courier and they ALWAYS use sodding Evri! At least I got an email this time, the last problem I had with them was when they actually delivered my parcel. Three hours before the stated delivery slot, when I was out. They dumped it in front of my door in full view of the street and of course, it got stolen.

Their customer service is absolutely *****, too.

Anyone else have any horror stories from this godawful company?

(This parcel actually arrived at their depot on the 25th of August, for what it's worth....)

They've just delivered a leather jacket to me, but left it outside my front door for three days whilst i was in London!

Thankfully the locals on my manor know not to mess with me, otherwise it might have walked.

Either that, or sheer good luck.

Well I’ve no idea what can be bought for as little as £1.49 with “free delivery” but I’d imagine not very much at all. I’d expect the actual cost of the delivery to be absorbed into the price, as there’s no way Evri (or anyone else) aren’t charging the retailer a fee. So it’s never “free” delivery except in name.

If I bought a packet of football stickers off the internet for my son’s album for that price, and it’s free delivery, I’d expect exactly what I had agreed to. Ie the stickers to turn up on the day they told me they would, and fully intact, its not a big ask.

If these companies don’t pay their staff properly that’s the courier’s shortcoming, not mine, but it’s a bit strange to just say that customers should expect the delivery to be a rubbish experience because they didn’t pay for a specific time or whatever. From what I can tell there isn’t a lot of choice in terms of the “quality” of service, it’s purely about picking a specific time or whatever (and I usually don’t care about that level of detail). Especially if it’s for an item that is worth only £1.49.

Well Jam would have said it was your own fault for not paying for a more expensive time slot so it would have served you right! 😜

Evri used to be Hermes. They were absolutely terrible. Lost loads of our stuff a couple of xmas’s ago. Haven’t had any issues since their rebranding and our local delivery girl is very nice. DPD are always spot on. Amazon mainly good. My mrs gets stuff from QVC. I don’t know which company deliver for them but its like playing hide and seek trying to find the stuff they drop off.
