He was definitely 'good' in those first two seasons, but he and Jimmy were both criticised for being slow/lazy sometimes. I'm getting mixed up slightly though cos I thought he was here 4 years and just checked and it was only 3.Don't know about that. First season he barely played due to injury so fair enough, (but still managed an absolutely sublime brace v Man City).
Second season though, modest return in the league maybe, but cups were the priority and he certainly delivered on that front. 3 goals in the UEFA cup comeback games. That ridiculous goal v Charlton in the FA cup quarter final. Think it was that season he scored that wonder goal away to Birmingham too. I thought he was excellent that year.
Viduka was actually best for us under Southgate though, when he was the clear established leader of the side and by far the best player and relished it, although he was clearly after a bigger contract too.
