Is this not just tradition and has happened everytime a new monarch is sworn in? I’m assuming it’s not something just for Charles?
A treat for the plebs. No it is a brand new idea just for Charles. The practice was normally done by the lords and clergy present.
So yes it’s a completely new thing.
I can't disagree with you there, it is outdated, Charles has shown how far he's out of touch and the organisers have scored a huge own goal with the pledge your allegiance farce. Wasn't Wellby's idea or he seems to be getting the blame?A treat for the plebs.
Think it's backfired though hasn't it? Shone a bit of an uncomfortable light on how farcical and outdated the whole thing is.
Shows once again how out of touch the ruling class are. A lot of people are apathetic. A lot of people are quite happy to go along with it for a bit of fun or out of a sense of tradition.
But for them to think the majority want to pledge an oath of allegiance to some posh bloke they've never met in this day and age shows they aren't living in the real world.
To be fair I don't think Willy will make that sort of mistake when it's time for him to have a go.

It’s probably quadrupled in my lifetime. I suspect that give it another 10-20 years there will be serious pressure on the existence of a royal family.Itv published an interesting stat yesterday from a recent poll that of those surveyed 51% were in favour of Charles as king and think he’ll do well.
So in turn that means 49% think he won’t be.
49% is incredibly high especially on this topic and must be a worrying stat for those in power.
It’s almost an admission that feudalism still exists in some form or other but they’re giving a tiny concession to us mere plebs to allow us to do what the aristocrats only had access to.I see it’s been answers already but just to add, they are trying to sell this as some form of inclusivity for the common person…
Ah ok I wondered what all the fuss was about if it was just tradition. Does seem to be a bit pointless and will just highlight the division between the royalists and others. No it is a brand new idea just for Charles. The practice was normally done by the lords and clergy present.

I really hope there is some civil disruption11,000 police used for it. Wow
Who will be left to run along side in front and behind rishi now then
Why, what will that achieve?I really hope there is some civil disruption
Suppose the good news then is the streets of London will be safer for a few hours for women and ethnic minorities.11,000 police used for it. Wow

I saw a poll on YouTube something along the lines of are you pro royal or anti royal and it was split 50/50(or there abouts) with 10000 people voting.Itv published an interesting stat yesterday from a recent poll that of those surveyed 51% were in favour of Charles as king and think he’ll do well.
