Who will be crying out in chorus an allegiance to the king?

Is this not just tradition and has happened everytime a new monarch is sworn in? I’m assuming it’s not something just for Charles?

No it is a brand new idea just for Charles. The practice was normally done by the lords and clergy present.

So yes it’s a completely new thing.

A treat for the plebs. 😂🤦‍♂️

Think it's backfired though hasn't it? Shone a bit of an uncomfortable light on how farcical and outdated the whole thing is.

Shows once again how out of touch the ruling class are. A lot of people are apathetic. A lot of people are quite happy to go along with it for a bit of fun or out of a sense of tradition.

But for them to think the majority want to pledge an oath of allegiance to some posh bloke they've never met in this day and age shows they aren't living in the real world.

To be fair I don't think Willy will make that sort of mistake when it's time for him to have a go.

I can't disagree with you there, it is outdated, Charles has shown how far he's out of touch and the organisers have scored a huge own goal with the pledge your allegiance farce. Wasn't Wellby's idea or he seems to be getting the blame?

Previously, when discussing the royals with Boromart, I stated that it was time we cut the royals back and I do think this should be the last big celebration we as a country pay for.

I've never been a real royalist but I am certainly not a Republican.

In answer to the OP - Nope

I`ll be on my toes up on the NYM between Clay Bank and Blakey Ridge

Not happy that the tax payers are paying for this, money should have been better spent especially as their are common subjects on their knees for something completely different

I see it’s been answered already but just to add, they are trying to sell this as some form of inclusivity for the common person…
previously, only the members of the House of Lords were permitted to proclaim their allegiance during the ceremony…
now our benevolent king is allowing us the ordinary people to pay homage to him…

it’s not compulsory, which is another thing we should be great full for, so if you’re that way inclined, fill your boots and join in with the charade….

Itv published an interesting stat yesterday from a recent poll that of those surveyed 51% were in favour of Charles as king and think he’ll do well.

So in turn that means 49% think he won’t be.

49% is incredibly high especially on this topic and must be a worrying stat for those in power.

It’s probably quadrupled in my lifetime. I suspect that give it another 10-20 years there will be serious pressure on the existence of a royal family.

It’s almost an admission that feudalism still exists in some form or other but they’re giving a tiny concession to us mere plebs to allow us to do what the aristocrats only had access to.

They just don’t understand the common person and it will be their undoing eventually

Ah ok I wondered what all the fuss was about if it was just tradition. Does seem to be a bit pointless and will just highlight the division between the royalists and others.

thing is, they use that figure like they did with brexit as a majority in favour…

however it’s a personality question about Charles and it’s likely to be 50/50 but the important question about the future of the monarchy is ignored as that might be the other way and they’d have to face a ‘difficult’ question…

im guessing it’s still close, but another one about the coronation showed 70% or more are not that interested in it.

I saw a poll on YouTube something along the lines of are you pro royal or anti royal and it was split 50/50(or there abouts) with 10000 people voting.

Apparently, even King Charles finds the idea of people paying homage to him “abhorrent” and it looks like Archbishop Justin Welby is getting the blame for it.
