Why doesn’t the club adjust the wage budget

Okay, so the club reduces the wage budget. We have a bit of a rebuild to do in the summer.

Less money in the war chest could affect our ability to sign that top class striker or increase strength and depth in the squad.

Let’s say we tweak the recruitment model even further by buying even younger / cheaper players. Some sections of the fan base will accuse the club of lacking ambition - as is already the case this season, so they’re kind of in a no win situation.

This isn’t a defence of the increases. Just playing Devils advocate. In principle, it’s an idea but in reality, getting the balance right is difficult.

I’ve sat on the sidelines a fair bit on this issue. I expected an increase if I’m honest - given inflation and the fact the club still continues to run at a loss.

I understand why people are annoyed same time though, so if people want to walk out / protest etc. then I’m totally fine with that - it’s personal choice.

I’ve invested in two ST’s this year as usual and my missus has went to two games. I’ve given hers away for all the other games. It’s been a bit outlay for me just to go but don’t want to give up the priority points or longer term benefits. Especially as my daughter is only a couple of seasons away from going along with us.

Would we? we’ve invested more in wages and transfer perviously to have the same result. Investment on the pitch doesn’t mean success
we have already massively dropped our wages, year on year for about 5 years now. I suspect that this is all part of the master plan to go for it this summer. When we make a couple of early cracking forward signings, all this noise will die down,

I've said it before, this summer coming up is a huge window of opportunity for the club. We won't have established prem sides playing the championship like Leicester and Leeds. We will have all our high earners off the clubs payroll, we will have a quad that has been largely selected for the style we play, we will have lower debt than we have had for a decade, and we will have ffp investment room that we haven't had since the karanka days. Everything is lined up.

Surely the club doesn’t need to cut the playing budget though. They’ve sold £32m worth of players in the past year, with the possibility of another £14m in add-ons(unlikely to get Spence’s, admittedly).

This increase means there’s been increases of around 20% in 3 or 4 seasons.

The club can blame minimum wage or business rates as much as it likes, the truth is the real cost comes from the countless appalling transfer business the club has done since relegation. We’ve had 6 managers and 6 lots of backroom staff in 7 years.

There looks to be a definite improvement and some very joined up thinking now regarding our transfer business, at last. But you would think that whatever are they going to generate through this latest batch of price rises is going to be wiped out by those who either don’t renew or go to fewer games off the cuff.

As for being less competitive. Well think how much they spent on Muniz season and he couldn’t even get on the bench. This season we have Hoppe. Gilbert was around £1m in compensation alone wasn’t he? Plus wages. Maybe just don’t do that in future?

It's not a guarantee, but even Luton last season had the same wage bill as us. Hull's was only £4m less than ours and they were watched by three men and a dog plus away fans.
Sheff U had the same wage bill as us when they went up under Wilder and we had PP that season.
Parachute Payment clubs all run with the highest wage bills - and they tend to do very well.

Luton's wage bill shot up because of promotion bonuses.

It would have been significantly lower without that.

if the club decided to make cuts in salary we all know it won’t be coming from the playing staff, people on minimum wage will lose their jobs they are always the first to go.

£500k.. I feel like we could make that in a season from the concourse and club shop and extra tickets sales a politely worded statement with a ticket price freeze could bring

I don’t mean by just whacking the prices up in the concourse and the club shop by the way!

The witchcraft of allowing fans to buy doors and drink and replica shirts.

Rather than rise ticket prices. Drop 20k a week off the wage budget, or knock 2 million off the transfer budget
As I understand it from listening to Kieran Scott as well as the club they have looked closely at the budget of all clubs that finish top two and play offs and have identified it strongly correlates with particular wage budgets. Obviously parachute clubs have a vastly bigger budget available to them but for Boro to aspire to be in that competing group we need to attract the right players. We need to be able to buy players earning a certain type of wage

We take record sales for beers this season. Apparently we are selling volumes up there or in excess of our Premier era. Could it be more with better service? More outdoor facilities? More staff? How do you get more staff when they only work once a fortnight?
Commercially the club brings n £6.5 m per year all in - again a record for the club.
