Wilder 'daft not to give Akpom a chance'...

Yes, but Wilder has appeared to very much open the door for Akpom this afternoon, while the Watmore speculation is left to hang. If Akpom stays, then obviously I'll get behind him (with zero anticipation) but if Watmore also leaves you have to question the management's sanity. Not only has he got a great attitude, he consistently makes things happen in the final third. Having lost Tavernier, we can't afford to bin Duncan too

Nobody asked him about Watmore, people asked him about Akpom.

Can't see it happening for him but at this stage, given our lack of options, why not give him a chance?

I doubt he'll ever be a prolific goalscorer but I also doubt he's as bad as some make out based on him suffering for half season playing under tactics he wasn't remotely suited to.
His best two seasons have been in the Greek top tier for one of the better sides who probably play a possession based game more in the keeping with CW's favoured style and though he was hardly prolific there he possibly didn't miss as many glaring chances that our strikers did
last season. If Wilder sees something in him there is a chance he will be at least on the bench tomorrow if not a surprise starter.

I'm really interested to see how Akpom does if given the chance. Let's not forget how highly rated he was during his youth days at Arsenal. Wasn't he one of the players predicted to play for England at some point? I think somewhere in there there's a good player, and football is a funny old game so who's to rule out him going on to have a good season for us? Stranger things have happened. I watched Spence look very ordinary for us last pre season and look what he went on to achieve. Anyway, bring on tomorrow. #utb

It's needs must. He's a striker and we're short of them. May as well give him a chance while he's here and were paying him. Seems unlikely that he is suddenly going to start banging them in for fun but until we have got more strikers through the door it would be madness not to make use of him if only as a substitute.

He plays, get behind him for the time he's on the pitch.

You have to remember one critical thing - he cannot be as bad as Connolly. With his laces tied together, with deep sea divers boots on. Just can't.

Can't see him being here past deadline day once forward replacements are brought in, but until he goes he's a Boro player so let's not be negative.

I'd love him to score (a hat-trick) tomorrow 👍
If he's like he was previously he'll be worse than Connolly. Akpom did literally nothing in many of his previous appearances, at least Connolly got near the ball on occasion

On the contrary! You'd be daft to have him anywhere near the first-team squad. Half an hour running around looking busy against Marseille and suddenly he's about to confound all the evidence of his entire career so far? Is this the club softening us up, I wonder? We just can't shift him on his wages so we may as well hope for the best...

As for Watmore's alleged departure, I haven't been as angry since Pulis sold Bamford. What's he done to deserve getting binned? Can see him scoring against us this season, for sure...
We might not get another player in at all this month, it would be daft to freeze a striker out until we have a replacement

Exactly , who knows what is going on in his head ? May be the penny has dropped , he is a few years older etc . Either way , he is not going to perform if the crowd are on his back.

Forss will start tomorrow with Watmore. Akpom and Josh on the bench.

Would've been McGree as 10 and Watmore up front if Tav hadn't (almost) gone.
I doubt he'll start. When asked about it during the press conference Wilder said that he will be involved but said that he's been doing his pre-season work with Brentford, and it will be difficult to chuck him straight in when he only came in on Thursday. He said he would be in the 18 though.

I'd say Coburn and Watmore will start and Forss/Akpom will get 20-30 minutes each 2nd half.

I wouldn’t say “literally nothing”.
He and others did score some goals while he was on the pitch. I do recall him frequently drawing defenders into making space for others to score but unfortunately for him, those contributions don’t reflect in the stats which many fans tend to focus on. That said, Warnockball didn’t suit him.

He went a long period after initially scoring a couple looking like he was never going to score another goal (which he didn't).
They were both rubbish ultimately

210 games - 28 goals. That’s a goal every 7.5 games.

But you know, he was ok for half an hour in a pre-season no pressure game against Marseille. Get him in!

Again, I would say he’d make a half decent winger. But if he’s a ‘striker’, then I’m Brad Pitt.
