Wilder 'daft not to give Akpom a chance'...

On the contrary! You'd be daft to have him anywhere near the first-team squad. Half an hour running around looking busy against Marseille and suddenly he's about to confound all the evidence of his entire career so far? Is this the club softening us up, I wonder? We just can't shift him on his wages so we may as well hope for the best...

As for Watmore's alleged departure, I haven't been as angry since Pulis sold Bamford. What's he done to deserve getting binned? Can see him scoring against us this season, for sure...

It's the management realising we're very short on strikers right now, so we might as well use one of the 2 we have contracted that aren't in the plans until we bring some in.
Akpom is much, much more mobile than Ikpeazu, and has more chance of working within our style.

I don't think they expected to only have 1 through the door at this point.

On Watmore, the only information on that is from a two bit journalist on an unreliable website, there might well be no truth to it at all
He also said a bid for Akpom had been accepted, which directly contradicts what Wilder said today.

He plays, get behind him for the time he's on the pitch.

You have to remember one critical thing - he cannot be as bad as Connolly. With his laces tied together, with deep sea divers boots on. Just can't.

Can't see him being here past deadline day once forward replacements are brought in, but until he goes he's a Boro player so let's not be negative.

I'd love him to score (a hat-trick) tomorrow 👍

Given the crazy money being quoted for strikers may as well give him a chance.
If he scores, say, 5 in his first 10 games his value will rise to £10m.
Can he really do any worse than Fletcher, Sporar or Connolly???!!!

The way we play now we just need somebody mobile in the middle to knock in the supply from the flanks.

Can't see it happening for him but at this stage, given our lack of options, why not give him a chance?

I doubt he'll ever be a prolific goalscorer but I also doubt he's as bad as some make out based on him suffering for half season playing under tactics he wasn't remotely suited to.

We're paying his wages so damn right we should expect the guy to play if we need him to. You never know he could just click. What have we got to lose? It's not as if there are other players that he would be keeping out of the side.

Wouldnt it have hurt to play him in the U23 friendlies (assuming youre allowed the odd over age player) rather than freeze him out completely?

He came on as sub against Marseille and accidentally almost set up a goal for McGree. EDIT missed the 'U23' bit. I don't think he trained with us til later in pre-season. It was reported he was training on his own.

That's an excellent point, choosing to ignore 50% of the story to get angry but believe the other 50% of the story to get angry.
Yes, but Wilder has appeared to very much open the door for Akpom this afternoon, while the Watmore speculation is left to hang. If Akpom stays, then obviously I'll get behind him (with zero anticipation) but if Watmore also leaves you have to question the management's sanity. Not only has he got a great attitude, he consistently makes things happen in the final third. Having lost Tavernier, we can't afford to bin Duncan too
