I think our thoughts are aligned on this one Mart, I’d love nothing more than for him to take this season by the scruff of the neck!

His off field issues are hopefully in his rear view and he can concentrate on his football.

Whether he makes it at boro or not he will have a great career just like Lewis wing has.
 
I also agree that it's quite poor form to continously bump a thread with a title slating a player when that player has recently opened up about severe mental health problems during last season.

Players do read forums.

Obviously doesn't mean his performances can't be critiqued, but I don't think it really needs a dedicated 7 month long thread about just how low you think he's fallen and just how poor you think his technique is.

You keep saying you want him to do well, but you are obsessed with letting people know that you don't think he is.

I think this is around the 5th time you've bumped this thread, when it's long since dropped off the first few pages of the forum and each time it's just to continue slagging him off.

It’s a designated thread is it not? There has been nothing below the belt at all said on this thread so I’m not really sure what your problem is.

Shall we make a rule of no players can be critiqued?

There are now 17 pages in this thread, there are 4 pages worth of posts just from you bumping it and arguing against other posters who are defending him.

Have I slagged him personally or critiqued his ability? Have you read what I’ve written I see nothing personal or ‘slagging’ just critiquing.

Maybe, we are all wrong about things.

I’ve said I’d love to be wrong, I don’t think I will be but I’d love to be.

Nothing I’ve said that you’ve quoted can be seen as personal slagging.

I’m well within my rights as a supporter to critique and I critique because I expect a lot more like his days under wilder.

Did you see the interview he did. He stated he was in a bad place last year suffering with depression. A lot went on in his life last year but feels he’s ready to go again this season.
 
After Akpoms performance last season I think it’d be unwise for any boro fan to ever pessimistically predict the upper level of a players potential!

Also, with Jones having come from non league, even if he “only” ever becomes an option / squad player then I’d consider him a success. Especially when he can cover multiple positions and was signed for pennies.

Whatever happens with Jones, he’s already a success in my eyes!!

That’s a great way of putting it, the fact he’s come from non league he is classed as a success.

Given a lot has come out since this thread was started, it serves no positive purpose and has frequently stank out the front page of the forum for months, without a competitive ball having been kicked. We need to support the young lad and he needs to be able to draw a line under last season and try to start afresh, with our support.
I’m sure fans will start critiquing all our players again once the season gets under way, which is fair enough, but this thread has had it‘s day and is quite unsavoury really.
I’ve got huge respect for Jones for opening up about his battles and I really hope he can get back to doing his thing on the wing.

That sets the precedent that any thread critiquing a players performance can be removed does it not?

There has been no abuse aimed at jones in this thread.

A football messageboard that bans the critique of a players performances, form or indeed ability, is no longer a football messageboard.

As long as everyone acknowledges the mental health challenge he has faced and doesn’t personally attack him, then I’m not sure the problem.
