The answer is no they can't. They have taken a concerted effort by Trump to lie and politicise the outbreak and have ran with it. It's utterly shameful that these people openly repeat a theory based entirely in creating division and promoting racism. They are pretty disgusting for trying to proliferate this lie.

In the information I have read / seen it didn't specify what coronavirus were being researched. I couldn't comment.
@SmallTown that's the most ridiculous post I've seen you post in a while, this is nothing to do with trump. This is scientists including the head of the CDC saying that the evidence shows it likely was accidentally released from a lab. The only person politicising anything is you.

Many people cal this virus that is causing this pandemic the coronavirus without specifying which one. You called this variant of concern the Indian variant, it's exactly the same thing you.ate accusing others of from your ivory tower.
Alvez raised the possibility of the virus escaping from a lab. That hasn't been disproven by anybody yet, neither has it been proved that virus definitely came from a bat or other animal sold in a wet market.
I'm surprised you haven't blamed Brexit for it yet in all honesty.

That's essentially saying 'Im going to discard everything you said because of a grammar mistake'. It's absurd.
I can see only a handful want to discuss anything about it, what the implications could and should mean for science. Obama had it right banning this research in my opinion. Ironically ST in his rubbish spouts this is a trump created conspiracy when in reality it's Trump who allowed this research to be reinstated, so he should burden some of the blame if it came from the lab in the first place.
