xG

Better than forss and jones i really dont see it certainly not at present. I would forgoet about a number 10 and drop rogers then maybe we can get some more support for howson and Hackney
They will be better once they settle in and understand their roles better. Rogers was quiet on Saturday but very good against Coventry in the second half.

Silvera seems to be trying too hard at the minute he needs to relax a bit.

When did I last hear us talking about the xG table... Oh ye 2022 under wilder. Almost exactly a year ago
And the team eventually proved it was better than the results when Wilder was sacked.

I think a lot of that was a mentality change with a new coach.

Hopefully Carrick is better than Wilder and can turn the mentality around.

Fingers crossed mate, just think talking about xG doesn't help us at the moment...

I think it was more than that 🤣

We changed the whole system. Went from 3-5-2 to 4-2-3-1. Started pressing teams up the pitch.

We took players out the team that were clearly struggling. Muniz, Mowatt and Jones came straight out and Forss, Hackney and Akpom came in and made a big difference.

Maybe we need a similar approach. Let's look at the players that are struggling and get them out the team. Obviously we need the players to replace them.

Maybe we need to be less stubborn with the formation. Make the formation fit the players we have and instead of making the players fit the formation

I don't entirely disagree - the additions of Hackney, Smith and Forss made a big difference.

But some of it was mentality - we outplayed a number of teams with the 352 formation and lost.

The change of formation and tactics offered a fresh start that I think solved some of the mentality issues. It may be that Carrick needs to make some kind of big change to make people feel we are starting fresh/doing something new - one of the problems was that Wilder would not consider that.

If Carrick is also a one formation coach (a valid option) - he needs another way to change mentality.
