Ooooooffffff.

Daughter is 21 next month, has been driving for two years, black box fitted, no claims/warnings......squeeky clean.

Insurance last year went down from about £1500 to just under £1000 (1 years no claims), year on another year of clean driving under her belt, cheapest I can get is £1250 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Saying that our policy has increased by about £150 for a heard of insurer......
£300 extra to renew with our current provider. Not happening.

Suppose it's down to the Ukrainian war, or the increased cost of grain globally 😳😳

Worra rip off.

Mine went up £150 and I have 19 years no claims although my previous provider wont give me confirmation of more than 9 .. how does that work?

There should be some kind of database that providers can use to confirm your NCD

Read recently that Admiral lost 380,000 customers in the first half of the year but still managed to increase profits by 4% to £234M in the same period. Increased repair costs? I think someone's taking the p!ss.

As his daughter is the main driver, could she not add a responsible person like her dad as a second driver to bring the cost down?
Yes, that's what we have done. Mam and dad as additional drivers.

Made a big difference last year, but costs seem to have rocketed. Mental.

Also is your daughter on the Electoral Register?
Have you tried going through cashback sites as well?

Also try Direct Line as well just in case as they don't show up on price comparison sites.

I have just renewed my daughter's insurance, she passed June 2022 age 18, first year with Tesco black box was £1100, renewal again in June with Tesco and the black box still in place £470. Car is a Alfa Mito 900cc and 6000 miles allowed, you can pay for more if needed.

Sure you have tried everywhere but if not give Tesco a call rather than online

That now hinders your policy mine with my partner on almost doubled the premium where as previously it knocked £100 off

Daughter is with Tesco at present, got a really good deal last year. Asked her about the renewal price was met with a "huh ...... dunno"

Yes, that’s fine. The problem would come if the daughter was the registered keeper but the father insured it in his name with her as a named driver. If the daughter is the registered keeper then she needs to insure it in her own name and it will probably help to have additional experienced drivers added to the policy, provided that the additional drivers don’t have any serious convictions (IN10 or DR10 for example).

How can I get cheaper car insurance?

  • Plan ahead: The cheapest time to get quotes is 23 days ahead of your renewal date. The closer that gets, the more expensive the quote - so look into it ahead of time.
  • Check comparison sites. As they are technically insurance marketplaces, they're allowed to negotiate their own prices with insurers. Try getting two or more quotes to improve your chances of getting the cheapest deal.
  • Make sure you're on the electoral roll: Not being on the register makes it trickier for companies to identify you, so you might receive get a higher quote.
  • Try to haggling a discount with your existing insurer. If you don't want to try a new provider, try negotiating directly with your current one.
  • Check whether the policy is suitable. There are always add-ons to choose from, such as the option of a courtesy car being included if yours needs to be fixed. Make sure you've picked only the ones that you want.

Strange that the same company gives such different results for what looks like similar quotes, without knowing the car and area you live in, although don't imagine Redcar is the cheapest postcode when it comes to insurance.

The woman I dealt with for the renewal could not of been more helpful, but there you go.
