Your fave Britpop act then and now.

If anyone needs a pick list

"While definitions may vary, artists labelled as Britpop were typically guitar-based bands that emerged from the British music scene, were popular in the 1990s, and focused more on melody than other contemporary genres such as grunge"

I guess everyone's definitions will vary, at the time most those bands got called indie music and was played in the indie room at blaises etc

Just listened to the first two Oasis albums for the first time in a while. There's some superb tracks on them. Brings back memories of great times as well (y)

Hate to be pedantic but SR are Madchester, not Britpop.

For me:

Oasis (closely followed by the Verve)
Oasis (closely followed by the Verve)
Nether are half the bands mentioned on this thread!
Surely Oasis are the epitome of madchester!

I listened to their EP about a million times on trips to London or Manchester on national express, every song just seemed great. Never got into their album as much but hammered that and picked it up recently for record store day

I agree that the EP was miles better than the album, and I think that's a fairly popular view amongst fans. I still listen to it frequently. They played a couple of gigs this week and I'd have loved to go, but I'm the wrong side of the Atlantic!

Oasis are 100% not a Madchester band. Despite being from Manchester.

Stone Roses/Happy Mondays epitomise Madchester. And the lesser known 'Northside'.

I'm not sure which other bands you're referring to that aren't Britpop though?

I'd say that list is definitive. The Charlatans arguably straddled both Madchester/Britpop. 'Tellin' Stories' was definitely a Britpop album.

MSP were a Britpop band I'd say, even if they weren't exclusive to it. The 'Everything Must Go' album certainly was anyway.

James also straddled both movements.

Oasis formed in 1991, I would suggest that Madchester was finished by the end of 1990.
Oasis formed in 1991 but Britpop (and Oasis) didn't get going until about 1994. I'd say Madchester ended in 1992ish, when the Mondays were messing about with their final (fairly rubbish) album, and no one knew what was going on with the Stone Roses.
