Your favourite Christmas films

well if it’s a movie with relevance to Christmas, that is released in the run up to Christmas, it’s generally not hard to argue it as a Christmas movie.

If it’s released in July, and therefore seen and judged by summer cinema-goers in shorts and flip flops, that makes it a bit harder to argue for.

Which movie was released on 7th Jan? And are you sure it wasn’t just a bit late getting to New Zealand? 😉
Nope.

Man that profits from a film being a Xmas film says it's a Xmas film shock. Unless he said it in the 80s before it was released then it clearly was never intentionally a Xmas film.

It was an action film that used Xmas as the reason McClane was in the building. Xmas is a McGuffin.

Look how Xmassy the poster was. It doesn't even mention Xmas.

People have convinced themselves it is a Christmas movie. At first it was an ironic joke around 2009, before then there was no talk of it being a Xmas film. It snowballed (pun intended) and now people watch it at Xmas. If that makes it a Xmas film then fine but it is clear that there was never any intention for it to be one. It's just a joke that got out of hand. It's a great film, I'd watch it at any time of the year which is another reason it's not really a Xmas film.

Nice try but it’s still a Christmas movie. Why ? Because I say it is.

You're just plain wrong man.

IMDB the definitive reference resource on all things film list their top 100 greatest Christmas films of all time. Oh look what is at a number 2!

So if IMDb says it is, Abel says it is, Fabio says it is, umpteen other esteemed members of this board say it is, the writer of the film’s screenplay says it is and I say it is then it most definitely IS.

One modern Christmas film I did enjoy very much - Polar Express. Saw it at my local boutique cinema with a great sound system. Fabulous

The original miracle on 34th Street was released in the summer I think? So is that not a Christmas movie either?

As they probably say in that movie, I rest my case your honour. 😎

I'm a big kid when it comes to Christmas films, it's all about the nostalgia.

Muppets Christmas Carol
Grinch
Home Alone 1 & 2
Father Christmas (Cartoon)
Jingle all the way (so bad that's it's good)

Not technically a film I suppose as it was on TV, but Bernard and the Genie is just a magnificent Xmas film - staple viewing every Xmas Eve in this house

I think I must have seen almost every version of A Christmas Carol, going back as far as Sir Seymour Hicks 1913 silent film.

Can't beat Alastair Sim for me, although Patrick Stewart runs a close second.

Don't like Reginald Owens version.its a bit too cor blimey guvnor cockney Hollywood.
Albert Finneys isn't great, but Anton Rogers singing Thank You Very Much is the highlight of it and an absolute corker. You could imagine Lionel Bart wishing he'd wrote it for Oliver!
Don't care for George C Scott's portrayal but Frank Finlay was a good Marley.

Muppets? Yeah 😊

Liz Smith (Nanna from The Royle Family) was in 3 versions playing Mrs Dilber twice bless her.

I have watched Muppets Christmas Carol every year since I was 3 (according to the parents). I remember watching it from the age of 7/8 and have done so ever since. I pretty much know it line for line but love it every year.

Light the lamp, not the rat, light the lamp, not the rat!!!

Also, National Lampoon's is a very close second. I'm determined to dress up as Cousin Eddy one Xmas morning.

Mind I always say it's not Christmas until Jason and The Argonauts has been on.
I swear it's been on every Christmas on some channel for the last 50 years 🤣
I hope Christmas isn't cancelled in your household. I have just poured over the Radio Times over the Christmas fortnight and I cant see it! You will have to stream it.

Oh yeah planes, trains and automobiles. Though that's about a man coming home for Thanksgiving rather than Christmas which as far as I can tell is exactly the same as Christmas anyway.

Not a move but Slade recorded their Christmas smash hit on a sweltering July day in New York.
