I went to uni with a guy who knew loads about Roarkes Drift. He told me that the Zulu's eventually walked around the hospital and saluted the bravery of the men defending it.The best childrens' film ever. Well, for boys, anyway. No romantic sub-plot, just carnage.
In Dormo primary school it was re-enacted for several days in the playground. About 40 brave redcoats would face a human wave of 2 zulus.
Re the 11 Victoria Crosses, I read that some of the military establishment were opposed to awarding VCs because it was a 'backs to the wall' situation which didn't warrant the highest honour.
They choose to let them live for their bravery.
Not sure if that negates the argument about VC's or not.
