Worst Ever Boro 11 - We have our team!

that's not even close mate. Valdes was ok, Barragan terribly average, we've had much worse though. Espinosa nah, Mido and Gestede were mostly injured, poor signigs but not awful players.
Their impact on the team, the status of our club, the effect they had on our club. Hamill and Nimely are a bit harsh. Rudy Gestede could easy be one of the first names on the team sheet.

I seem to remember Andrew Davies playing a few games at RB and he was absolutely awful. Not sure how many he played and it's a bit unfair as he wasn't a RB really. Same goes for Seb Hines too.

On reflection it has to be Hoyte, it was his main position, he had 162 games as well, how the hell did he keep getting picked!

Agree with this completely. That's why my front two would be Britt and Alves. One was the main cause of relegation and the other was the reason we didn't go back up.

Depends on the criteria, if it's worst footballers neither are anywhere near, if its worst value for money or most disruptive then maybe, Mido was a quality footballer, just a bit of an ass

Right back for me has to be John Brownlie, might have been on of Bobby Murdoch’s last signings as I think he came after relegation in 1982. More recently Cyrus Christie was ok going forward, but couldn’t defend and Ryan Shotton had a long throw!
Definitely John Brownlie

That's harsh on Davies. Thought he done a job there.

I’d struggle with Alves.. poor signing, but not the reason we went down.

Defo a good argument for Britt Assombalonga to be in there.. was it his fault?

No point being a quality footballer sat at home in a bath full of bechmel

People can only go by who was in their timeline. If you weren't around when some of these players were around I can understand.
But some names coming out on here are very surprising as being labelled as the worst ever.

Alves was a Brazilian international £15 million signing, when that was a considerable sum, who we pushed the boat out for. He barely lifted a leg. If he had performed to the levels expected we would have had enough goals to stay up for another few seasons whilst we tried to rebuild.

Of course we've had worse strikers, but some lad coming in on loan for his first games, or a free transfer signing who has only ever played league one level or whatever, you get what you pay for.

agreed, but he started off very well, then cracked his pubic bone IIRC, never really got fit after that. Maybe partly his lifestyle, maybe because it was a really nasty injury that meant he couldn't do cardio for months. He had another problem with it a couple of months after he came back. My personal criteria for worst has to rely on them being fit enough to play and in their natural position.

Something didn’t ring true with his transfer fee.. he looked alright with Rochenback.

very, very limited footballer, wasn't strong, wasn't quick, wasn't particularly a great mover or finisher either

Was that Mido with the cracked pubic bone?

Yeah, didn't he get booted there during his 3rd or 4th match and tried to continue playing for another 4 or 5 matches before it was diagnosed.

If someone kicked my pubic bone in, I'd give the sport up, no way I'm going to allow my pubic bone to be put in mortal danger.

Surprised Aaron Connolly didn’t break his!

I can’t believe Brad jokes didn’t make it for the keeper. From a skill level he was atrocious and part of the reason we got relegated and find ourselves where we are today

Des McPartland absolutely useless keeper and his goalkicks got out of the box.... but only just. This put the defence under pressure all the time.
Played 40 games 1965 - 1967 W11 D10 L19
Almost 50% loss rate
Thank goodness for Willie Whigham
Before he was our first choice it was between Eddie Connachon and Bob Appleby and although I was only about 8 years old at the time I always remember my mates dad and his friend who accompanied us to the match using industrial language on the way home in the car about both of them, it didn't improve much with DM but they gave him a bit of leeway as he was young and local.
