Love him or hate him Preston is playing the game of politics far better than Labour are and that will tell in the polls.
What Joe Public see's is a vision that moves us to a night time/leisure based economy from a rotting dated high street retail cemetery. Promise of more jobs, new housing, new offices, new investment, new business creation, revamped train station. He is being seen as regenerating the mess that labour left behind.
Factually correct or not, as bad is it seems, is irrelevant. That is the picture that has been formed over the last 4 years.
Compare that to Labour...they are standing a candidate that no one has heard off (not his fault) with a promise that they are going to spend 4 years having a chat with Betty and Norman in Berwick Hills...
They have allowed the narrative over the last 4 years to be that local Labour are serial complainers and blockers to progress, with no actual plan other than get Preston out. That will not bring voters back to Labour.
I have asked a number of times "What is Labours plan if elected to a majority with a Labour Mayor" I still have no clue what the answer is."
Most of the electorate do not understand how councils work and will not do their own research, Labour should be shouting about the positives a Labour run council will make to the town and how this will be achieved. Instead we get "Armageddon", "bullying", "corruption", "multi-millionaire", "crisis"...
