Booing National Anthem ( South Stand)

Respect for what? The monarchy?

Why are they polluting the football with it? Have some respect, yourselves.

If you want to go flag-shagging then go somewhere private.

So you're actually saying that those of us who did respect it despite not thinking a football match the appropriate place for a political statement should actually have shown our dissent so that we were actually counted?

It's make your mind up time...
Yawn, meanwhile the world moves on, enjoy the past though and stay happy

Little prat in front of us today booing and sticking two fingers up.
If its not your thing, up to you, but keep it to yourself. Have some respect.
Maybe he travelled to London with a yellow poster with the words, Not my king”

Not big royalist by any means but would never lower myself to associate myself with scouse divvys yesterday . I stood up to applaud in South West corner as i was with my ex forces mate . but did feel uncomfortable by young and old eejits around me shouting "sit down" "he's a nonce " immature gullible ***** . Must say they looked outnumbered when I looked around

I'm not sure what your point is here?

It isn't the silent minority complaining. It's the vocal majority wanting to stamp out all dissent.

How far would you like that to go?

Where is your red line?
Wherever Starmer says it is, otherwise we likely have a tory govt returned, it really is that simple, no need to make things harder than we need.

What was the applause for mid-way through the first half? Not sure if I've missed a post but I had no idea.
Young lad Jordan Dee from Redcar hit with Duchennes muscular dystrophy from a child age . Massive Boro fan all his life . Wheelchair bound with respirator for many years longer than expected lifespan . Made it to 27 and passed 31st March. Jordan and his family massive friends of our family. Must admit hairs on back of my neck stood up as cheer went around ground . RIP JORDAN DEE ♥️♥️♥️

WTF has Starmer got to do with this thread?

It's about whether you think there should be a zero-tolerance policy to dissent.

If showing respect makes me a part of the silent majority then in future I'll not bother.

History shows that authoritarianism only ever goes one-way.

What about them, they can have their own chants, they can sing whatever they want, why should that have anything to do with anyone supporting god, the King or anyone they see fit. They don’t have to join in, the fact the vast majority did says something though.
Well I just think a national anthem that was actually about the nation itself would be more suitable as its anthem. There is more to this country than a belief in God and/or a King.

Not saying I want an anthem that specifically promotes atheism or royal-scepticism either.

I sat down throughout. I don’t think I’ll share my views on the monarchy or this coronation here but I’m very entitled not to participate in any form of celebration of it. People are also entitled to boo it. Much more justifiable than booing the knee but that’s a can of worms.

It’s a political gesture that doesn’t belong in football. Isn’t that what people have said? I was sat where the idiots that boo the knee were. No booing but vociferous support and loud singing. Bit of a hypocritical stance really.

The majority seemed to disagree this afternoon, but crack on.

Now that's someone who deserved a round of applause. RIP Jordan.

The way I see it, everyone will have their own opinion on the Royal family. Some have their own thoughts on the death of Princess Diana, Prince Andrew, cost to the taxpayer etc.

Each to their own, I wouldn’t boo myself but I'm not bothered by others doing so either. More important things to worry about in life.

I'd guess the vast majority didn't give it a moment's thought and just joined in because they were invited to.

As with politics, the vast majority don't really pay attention, or care, outside of a brief moment when they may go and vote.

It's a peculiar affliction of the English. Only happy when they're moaning about something they could have easily prevented.
