Steve Gibson Q and A Latest

Why did you say no?

Ah ****, just seen. Ignore me I’m half asleep.
I took a fair amount of abuse this week after what I thought was helping in appealing for the renewal deadline to be put back.
That is why we took MFC staff names off Middlesbrough Supporters Forum minutes. To ensure people do not receive personal abuse.

Why were folks having a pop at you over it?

SG used to do a regular Q&A with fans on BBC radioTees, and interviews with Ali - why did these kind of things stop ? The relationship between club hierarchy and supporters seems very low. PR is bordering on contempt/condescending at times and the timing and wording of the early bird deadline underlined this. It was nothing short of disastrous and only served to annoy fans even more. Surely the club can find someone to improve PR and keep fans informed in a more considerate and proactive way on a regular basis, rather than the curt yearly “its time you lot renewed” announcement we got a few days ago .

I think a few people have mentioned on here this week about the Stockton - Sunderland thing - which was either in jest or a mistake. The other one we want to smash the league that was misremembered as we are going to smash the league - is really enough to put anyone off. People have long memories for these sorts of things. That will be a big reason why Steve Gibson has backed away from giving interviews.

I do now know the answer to this because wifi hotspots were installed around the stadium that can used for food kiosks etc. The bill was in excess of £100k for that alone. I was told last week the latest estimate is the price of a decent Championship midfielder.
Interesting. Would like to hear from anyone who's used this modern marvel.

Can you ask him if he still talks to Ben Houchen or has that friendship now stopped after Ben got what he wanted out of him?

Gibson is no longer the young man who help ensure MFC survived as a football club.

What is his thinking for ownership over the next 30 years? Will Boro inevitably be owned by rich foreign investors?

I’d like you to ask him his views on the FFP P&S rules, how he thinks if could be improved, how much it holds us back from really being ambitious again, the struggle to comply etc.

Also ask him if he’s considered renting roof space or using our stadium roof space for solar panels to be fitted, reducing running costs or for bringing in extra income to the club?

It is on my side that the Steve Gibson delay has been - making sure that as many people as possible have access.
Also, I wanted to wait until the transfer window was closed otherwise it would be dominated by transfer questions.I suddenly realised this, well after mentioning the idea.
.
Instead it's jus going to he dominated by ticket pricing 👍🏻

I reckon I could give you the answers for those you’d likely receive off him.

I doubt the club will know of those players, I don’t know of those players and the club has a very small scouting team (Scott’s words in his last interview)

We sold Akpom because his contract was up in 12 months and if we didn’t we’d have lost him on a free, as he didn’t want to sign a new contract. That’s just good business sense. Same with Tav. Spence represented good value for a player that 1) didn’t want to be here and 2) wasn’t in our plans.

Didn’t spend the Rogers money because they didn’t think there was anyone available at a fair price. Had targets, but clubs knew we had cash after the sale and asked for unrealistic fees. So we walked away.

We loaned Ayling because Smith got injured. No other reason. That’s not going against the model, that’s covering injury.

It’s better for our younger keepers to play regularly rather than sit as third choice. Jones will only play in a worst case scenario. Better an ageing journeyman sitting as third choice rather than a promising youngster.

Absolutely no chance they’ll rethink season ticket prices. They’d have to refund those who’ve already paid.

Haven’t thrown the towel in, Rogers wanted to go. Crooks wanted to go. Can’t blame either of them. Better not to keep players around who want to be elsewhere.
Can you answer my question about wasting the first 7-8 games of each season cause we have sold players and not bought any? And what the plan is for when he eventually sells up. Many thanks.

Certainly Mr Boro.

We’ve looked long and hard into this and after much consideration we’ve came to conclusion that you should mind your fucken business. Renew now.

I would have thought this was self explanatory — transfers are not easy, there are so many points of negotiation, moving circumstances, and waiting for time to extract best value in sales and purchases.

A trick was missed when the English transfer deadline was moved ahead of the season start, and then Europe didn’t follow suit so they were forced to change it back.

My question would be around ticket costs - now that the club are bringing in good money in transfer fees, do they consider this when setting ticket prices for the next season, or do they purely look at this money as balancing the books or investing in playing staff?

100k for wifi thats crazy
It's not if you want it to work properly. Nowt worse than contactless payment gizmos with no signal and an angry queue 😀 My old place of work wanted WiFi coverage for visitors and a couple of meetings rooms (so not too high powered on a couple of corridors). Not just the cost, but the amount of time it took as it was being retrofitted into an old building was astounding considering at home I'd bought a WiFi sender for our landing and it did the biz for the whole top floor of the house after plugging it in and pressing a button. Cannot imagine the complications in a steel\concrete construction where there will likely have been no ethernet cables pulled for later use at the time the stadium was built. Each seated section is bigger than a domestic dwelling in volume if you consider the front to back and height including the concourse. You also need someone on hand to maintain it n'all 😀

There is nothing stopping cables being run all around the outside.

We’re missing a few Bigger tvs, especially in the SW upper. Another few would look nice, replacing the 22” crts
