Riley McGree [Mail / Sun]

We don't have loads of options in central midfield, and there's fairly strong evidence he fancies JLS a lot less!

Also Tav has been linked with a couple of clubs too.

For the three berths we have Crooks right, with Payero to cover.

Tav left (who has huffed and puffed but delivered very little this season). With JLS and now Muncer coming over the hill as cover.

Central we have old man Howson, with I assume McNair as cover?

So to prevent having to alter the back three we could do with another combative deep lying centre mid, to improve the team a touch we could do with a left side centre mid who puts up better goal and assist numbers than Tav. I personally think Crooks and Payero are enough to cover the right.

I think Crooks could probably cover Howson in some games with Payero coming in to play further forward. But Wilder hasn't done this as yet, choosing to move McNair forward from CB instead.

Be really interesting to see how we line up and what the balance of the midfield is after the window closes.
I think there could be something in Lundstrum as well. If we sign him and McGree we have a lot of midfield options…

Howson, Crooks, Payero, Tav, Boyd-Munce, McNair, McGree, Lunstrum, Siliki. Not to mention Malley.

You‘d think a couple will go, probably Siliki would go back and Malley out on loan, and we’d only see McNair play there in an emergency.

I'm waiting for the kick in the teeth, didn't Wilder say something about he has choices about who might have to go to fund rebuilding? With all these talk of midfielders, I'm starting to think it might be Tav

Looking at these highlights, maybe McGree could take Tav’s place if he does go in the transfer window? He is better at taking corners for starters? P.S. Thanks to the Celtic supporter for putting it on!

Looks very comfortable on the ball with opposition around him. Good close dribbling skills too. Like the look of him!

I can't keep up with all these midfielders we're in for.

Anyone would think the sale of Tav has not been publicised yet.

Whereas, we aren't flooding the CB positions, so hopefully Fry is staying put.

It's kind of looking like the plan for midfield is
Crooks / Payero
Howson / Lundstram
Tav / McGree

It certainly looks possible that Tav may be off if the right bid happens in which case Boyd-Munce comes in as the back-up LCM. Boyd-Munce might also be an emergency left wing-back
As Howson can play RCM he may be preferred there instead of Payero if needed.

Lundstram would be back up/ competition for Crooks. He’s a driving midfielder not a deep player

If its genuinely 5mil (I'm guessing in various instalments) then you'd think Tav or someone most be moving on.

I mean you'd have to say it really doesn't look good for Payero. Who probably cost similier (again in various instalments).

Who the hell is bank rolling this? I mean we had losses of 35mil and that was last year. God knows what this year's accounts will say. I'm guessing similar or worse. I'd be suprised if we don't need to start getting money in.

We arguably have what I'd call 4 sellable assets in Tav/Spence/Fry and McNair. I guess any Spence money won't happen until the summer. So you'd probably think Tav if we are even contemplating 5mil on a CM. Although need a longterm replacement for Howson.

Reason Celtic Swoop For Middlesbrough Target Riley McGree Broke Down Identified

11/01/2022 - 23:42 GMT

Bhoys boss Ange Postecoglou is keen to sign his countryman and Celtic agreed a fee with MLS side Charlotte FC to take the midfielder to Glasgow.

It had been thought that the switch would happen, but the move has collapsed due to the player not being able to agree personal terms with Celtic.

McGree ending up at Celtic this month is now rated as unlikely.

The midfielder has interest from elsewhere, with Chris Wilder’s Middlesbrough fighting hard for his signature.

Celtic appear to have slipped out of the picture for McGree, barring a late change in approach from either the player or the club.

Joining Middlesbrough would represent a return to Championship football for McGree, who had an 18-month loan stint at Birmingham City.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been capped on seven occasions by Australia at international level.

Middlesbrough have launched a last ditch move to beat Celtic to the signature of Australian international midfielder Riley McGree.

Sportsmail first reported a Parkhead move for the 23-year-old, with a deal worth £3million plus add-ons has been agreed with MLS expansion franchise Charlotte FC.

With an agreement on personal terms all but done, Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou hoped to tie up a deal this week.

Desperate to secure promotion to the English Premier League, however, Boro have now countered with a bid worth £2m more - including add ons - and improved wages understood to be around £14,000 a week.

A fans’ favourite at Birmingham, the Socceroos international made 30 appearances and scored three goals prior to his loan period finishing at the end of December.

Capped seven times, countryman Postecoglu was the first to draft the playmaker into the national team set-up and took a hands-on role in persuading him to consider a move to Glasgow.

Celtic have already secured Japanese trio Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi and Daizen Maeda as well as young Irish striker Johnny Kenny from Sligo Rovers.

Any more?

*Edit* who could forget 'Rolls' Rhys Williams!

Me evidently, although wasn't he eligible for Australia, England, Wales and India or something crazy like that?
