No rainbow armbands to be worn

Let's be honest here, the rainbow armband is a complete powder puff statement in the first place. It should not be down to individuals to display/ make a statement. Our football governing body has had years and years to consider this and the best it came up with was a rainbow band after sleepwalking into this sham tournament

Strange how all nations have given such a limp response - probably threatened with money in one way or another. I just hope some of our players have more balls than the FA. The good thing is though that this story stays in the news for now!!
That's what I thought. Money or they have been ever so politely told if they go through with the LBGTQ armband forget ANY chance of hosting a WC for the foreseeable.

These same players will be off on their annual holidays to Dubai soon enough, apparently they have much better human rights than Qatar?

The WC should never have been hosted there but a lot of hypocrites with selective memories.

Personally I think Kane should wear it and take the booking but it won't happen.

As I said on the other thread, if the 9 teams who were planning to do this stuck to their guns I think FIFA would back down because of the negative publicity it'd generate. Absolutely spineless and pretty much sums up just how FIFA was able to award the world cup to Qatar in the first place - the suits in charge of the game are a bunch of cowards.

Even if FIFA didn't back down, as has been said, it would be totally worth it and become a real statement of protest.

You stand up to bullies. Every gesture/initiative the FA comes out with from now on is worthless really isn't it?

Yet our own club is making money out of these tyrannical human rights abusers:

The way it was announced, sanctioned.. that’s not how protests go down. I mean it’s a lot to be thinking about getting your head chopped off for wearing an armband.

It stinks - a joint statement - I can’t believe that wasn’t pre prepared for them and they were told to issue it or else!

FIFA need the teams for this to be a success so the teams should jointly start throwing their weight around !

No balls.
Cowards.
Its all £££££££
In Nazi Germany the majority of participating countries gave credence to Hitler by taking the Nazi salute on the rostrum.
The one we remember who stands out is Jesse Owens, refusing to join in the Nazi family by saluting his country.

Yep if FIFA can give tacit endorsement to being anti-LGBT and our FA go along with it, then how on earth can they expect anyone to take them seriously on their campaigns against racism and sexism in the game?

Does it just need a rich enough country or person to say we don't like that and it stops?

F1 has the same issue in Hungary and Saudi and does nothing towards any meaningful action, it is left to Vettel and Hamilton to speak out.

I really a hope a player being interviewed after a game comes out live on air and calls out the utter disgrace that Qatar hosting the world cup is, and how happy he'll be to get back to the hotel so his partner can suck him off.

and then what if they are arrested or attacked or just disappear?

They wouldn't dare, he'd probably be deported for being gay. His team mates should then walk in protest, with the rest of the developed world, Iran and Qatar can play each other in the medieval backwards disgrace world trophy and pat each other on the back.

Honestly if we (as the developed western world) had invested everything we've spent on middle east military intervention since the first Iraq war on solar, wind, nuclear, hydrogen vehicles and insulating homes and businesses these backwards desert oligarchs would have barely any hold over us.

Money talks though.
Its power.
Lip service.
The veil of "equality and inclusion" soon falls away where money is concerned.

Budweiser should pick up the tab for moving the tournament!

We are just being sold off by our American Prime Ministers

That's my point Roofie, their money talks as we as the developed world have made Russia and the middle east our energy suppliers so politically, economically, and sportingly now we have to bend the knee or doff our caps to them or they won't invest or they'll turn the lights out.

Successive governments have done this to us over decades, rather than make the harder and slightly less popular choice to spend our tax revenue on our own energy infrastructure so we can stand independently. We have the son of a KGB colonel in the house of lords, a political party funded by Russian money, a host of football clubs owned by the middle east and now a sham of a world cup simply because we've made them obscenely wealthy. Hopefully the Ukraine situation and the subsequent rise in energy will force some change.
