Can't believe that Argentina threw that lead awayWhat an unbelievable last 20 minutes. Hope that excitement continues into extra time.
why wasn't it a free kick when the Argentina defender deliberately kneed it back to the goalie?

Because it's only a free kick if it's kicked back to the keeper using the foot. Only exception is when it's manufactured, IE flicking the ball up and heading it.why wasn't it a free kick when the Argentina defender deliberately kneed it back to the goalie?
Isn't it anything below the knee? It's only a back-pass if you use your foot.
Really? Never heard of that and I'm sure I have seen players do it and nothing given.Only exception is when it's manufactured, IE flicking the ball up and heading it.
Unless the referee judges it was a deliberate trick used to circumvent the law. Which can include getting down onto the ground so you can use your knee rather than your foot. No ref's going to give that in virtually the last minute of a World Cup Final though.Because you can knee it back to the keeper.
