Came across well in the post-match interview. On the pitch, he is looking a bit like Craig Hignett. That is, two footed, head up, and in the fullness of time, goals/ assists in equal measure.
Hopefully gives him the confidence to push on with us next season
Thought his tackle in the second half to prevent a certain goal was outstanding. Great pace shown there too. And he’s always got bits of quality with his passing ability
I though Azaz did play as a 10 yesterday, with Gilbert to the left of him.He played well yesterday but his biggest problem is he is playing as a no10 and azaz is far superior in that same role. For me moving azaz to wide left to accommodate gilbert really negates azaz's effectiveness. As well as Gilbert played i thought after he went off and azaz moved inside we were far more threatening. Azaz was superb yesterday especially second half and will be a star player for us next season.
Gilbert clearly has talent hes a clever carrick type footballer who is only going to improve with experience so definitely want to keep for next season
I don’t think it’s a case of not fancying him. He said he has had a lot to learn and work on, and obviously that takes time. He was playing Brentford B team and his only taste of first team football was 8 league appearances on loan at Swindon in league 2. He was always a development player, and clearly now Carrick thinks he’s showing signs of being ready.I thought he played well yesterday and looks a very classy player. I’m pleased for him, it seemed like he was going to be one of those players that Carrick just didn’t fancy - like Muinez or Djiksteel, but he’s really taken his chance and hopefully won Carrick over now.
Do agree with the Azaz comment though.
You’re probably right, it just felt with the injuries etc odd that he wasn’t getting many minutes at all. I’m pleased for him and I think he’s given Carrick something to think about.I don’t think it’s a case of not fancying him. He did, one was an absolute belter to Lath, Watford were pushing forward which Left Lath with space to run into and Gilbert, (great vision) hit a 60 yard pass which was perfect weight into his path.Didn’t Gilbert do a couple of killer long passes yesterday? If it was him there were glimpses of rare talent, hopefully he kicks on.
Yeah they were excellent. He did, one was an absolute belter to Lath, Watford were pushing forward which Left Lath with space to run into and Gilbert, (great vision) hit a 60 yard pass which was perfect weight into his path.
The other one of note was the Thomas chance, again perfect weight of pass along the floor.
He looks a player this lad.
