Archer - the Return

We should be building a team around Latte Lath - not trying to replace him.

Our style of play isn't going to change - we play with 1 striker and will play with 1 striker next season - so we don't need Archer. We do need a good backup option though.
Which is Coburn

I actually think that carrick might be open to playing 3-5-2

Ayling Rav lenihan Clarke bangura

Howson

Hackney. Mcgree (Azaz)

Lath. Coburn

Given that this formation really worked for us this season at times with the right wing backs it could be potent

Come on, own up...you read it on oneBoro didn't you?
Nope. If you go back through the OB Tfr thread you'll see I posted my friends info a week ago, earlier to Diggers conf. 28th April page 591 on OneBoro to be precise... MarkT73 is me
Then some confirmations have come through also since that.
It's not itk info tho. Just rumours from down in Birmingham with a link to Villa... Rumours are just that, rumours...

He has his stethoscope on the pulse.
Didn't say a bloke in Villa knew that...

That was added as there is a lot of traction around Hackney to West Ham. Those funds make the rumoured permanent Archer approach more credible, negotiate the add ins from Rogers in to it too (as per OB info). The fee comes down significantly

And just to stress. It's a rumour I heard. Nothing more
Me personally, Archer can do one. Lightweight and looking at Shef Utd forum he hasn't exactly put the effort in. Latte Lath and someone like Cannon as his backup for me
We need better depth as that's what cost us this season, ELL will pick up injuries just due to his style of play...

Remember last Jan when we first signed Archer it was reported we wanted a perm deal then before settling for the loan, so it's not out of the blue that we might try again. Just continuing to pursue a long term target. Maybe Archer would come back to the championship as he knows how much we want him. And maybe Villa are more open to a perm deal now.

Hiw good could next season be if we get a few big deals like this over the line.

Akpoms continued to shine, albeit against the odds in a team where he isn't number 1 choice
But the rest of our loan stars look adt season, who really flourished under our management team have had poor seasons and all made bad decisions (in hindsight)... Tho I'm sure their Bank Mgr is happy.
I think our reputation is strong as a great place to be, develop...
Credit to Carrick and his coaches.
Players should be desperate to get here

This is really an odd situation for Archer.....
He was badly advised to join Sheffield Utd for that money
He was never reaching anywhere near double figures in that team
He has wasted a year of his career
The prospects of another PL move are slim at best
He wasn't ready then and is unlikely to be ready now
His career is controlled by an inflated transfer fee and wages
If he wants to progress his career - he needs to play for an ambitious championship team where he scores a boat load and plays a full season
He will never progress being a bit part player at the bottom of the PL
Villa will now have to take a hit and it's their fault

At best......
Loan to championship team - £2/3 million
View to permanent deal if promoted £10 million
He is not an £18/20 million striker and never was
He is a prospect
As said..... His career is being controlled by finance which is seriously limiting his progress!

Philogene and Ramsey will be returning to Villa too. Perhaps a buy one get one free?
It'll be interesting to see who Sheffields manager is next year. I believe Utd can buy him at a reduced price if relegated

I don't think that's a clause from all the press stuff. But they might fancy him, whether they'll pay I doubt. Also would fancy getting wouldn't want to stay there

The contracts are just speculation but after a quick Google, the Birmingham local press implies a cut price deal is one of the option. He might fancy it if Wilders not there,he is a proven championship striker and theyll be loaded...but pure speculation obviously.

I'm not sure they will be loaded. Parachute pymts yes, but spiralling debts and payments for players still due. The feeling on their forums is they will lose a few and be looking at free signings (eg Paddy) "instead".

Philogene was signed as a permanent deal so don't think he will be going back

If we play the single striker all season (likely) then who really expects LL to play 90 plus minutes, 46 times in the season.

Having both Archer and LL would be terrific, with a finally fit Coburn available for a different approach, or late onslaught.
Having either one supplemented/fed by Akpom would be fabulous.

I think Villa will be preferring to sell given the financial position/P&S for them, but who to at a fee that really gets them?

Chuba won't be coming back, sadly I don't think, wages likely key.

The dreamer in me would love this rumour to be true, but the realist in me is saying that it doesn't really make much sense. If Lathe hadn't started looking like the real deal then I would of been more inclined to believe it, but with Lathe looking like he is capable of being the main striker and Josh as back up we are not in desperate need to spend £10m+ on a striker when we could pay half of that and get another striker to develop or adjust to English football for half the price of which Archer would cost.
I would also be more inclined to believe the rumour if it was a loan with an option to buy.

Either way true or not the squad would be stronger for having both Archer and LL, Archer has proven he is an excellent finisher and with someone like LL who covers every blade of grass could really make Archers game improve.

Both could play in a 2 or one could play in the 3 behind the main striker there are options plus both could play off Josh either as a 2 or 1 of the 3 it would give us so many different options.
