3 at the back in the league??

I think we might have found something these last couple of games out of necessity.

Fry plays best as a centre of a 3.

Jones and Engel both have the skills to play wing back.

I would like to see.

The back 5 that finished yesterday
Hackney and Barlaser in front of them
Azaz and Rogers as split 10s behind Coburn.

I think that gets all our best players on the pitch. The box 4 of Hackney, Azaz, Rogers and Barlaser could play some lovely stuff in the middle.
 
I thought it was 3 at the back but a back 5 when they had the ball !
So, 3, 4, 2 1 with the ball and 5, 4, 1 without the ball

I liked it and it packed the midfield to better support us in there 👍
 
Looked like 4 at the back to me last night from when Clarke came on though there was an element of fluidity to it and Carrick himself was playing down what the formation actually was after the Villa game.

Whatever we are playing, to be able to switch tactically so easily is massive credit to Carrick, the coaches and the players. They clearly work very hard on it.
 
Think the formation will depend on available fit players.

Does seem to lend itself to a 3-4-2-1 if need be.

Not for me.

It leaves us very exposed if we suffer an injury as there's no depth on the bench.

Thought the links with Charlie Cresswell would make more sense if Carrick was considering the switch long term.
 
Although we didn't see it for long, I thought I saw that when both Bangura and Jones were on the pitch together they were pushed much higher than against Villa where it was one stay one go.

I think we stuck with the back 3 initially when Clarke came on, but then quickly switched to a back 4 when we saw he was getting exposed on the left of the back 3
