Duncan Goodhew was pretty good as well.It is a certainty that technological advances have played their part, particularly advancements in doping tech, but it's the hair man, the hair. To prove my point I give you duncan goodhugh
You looked up how to spell that didnt you bear? I can't actually remember if he even won an olympic gold to be honest, but it suited my argument, and on flyme, that is good enough!Duncan Goodhew was pretty good as well.
Gold but there were no Americans there. You looked up how to spell that didnt you bear? I can't actually remember if he even won an olympic gold to be honest, but it suited my argument, and on flyme, that is good enough!
Ah the Russian Olympics which also saw a gold and silver as I recall for the scottish sprinter, Alan Wells. 2 medals he would never have got if the yanks had been there.Gold but there were no Americans there.
Except he took on the top Americans at a meeting shortly after the Olympics and beat them all.Ah the Russian Olympics which also saw a gold and silver as I recall for the scottish sprinter, Alan Wells. 2 medals he would never have got if the yanks had been there.
True - it was less than 2 weeks later in Koblenz. As mentioned in the Grauniad article below, one of the Americans actually came over to Wells after the race and told him:Except he took on the top Americans at a meeting shortly after the Olympics and beat them all.
“For what it’s worth, Allan, you’re the Olympic champion and you would have been Olympic champion no matter who you ran against in Moscow.”
Did he, I don't remember that.Except he took on the top Americans at a meeting shortly after the Olympics and beat them all.
And Steve OvettI wonder how Alan Wells felt; winning gold in Moscow but it always seemed to plague him that he only won because the USA boycotted. Similar for Goodhew I would've thought.
And Steve Ovett
No. They wouldn't have been. Ovett shouldn't have been either with Coe at his best at 800m.I remember that epic final well. Not sure how good the Americans were at those distances back then. Do you think he would've lost to someone from USA?
No. They wouldn't have been. Ovett shouldn't have been either with Coe at his best at 800m.
Actually on a serious note the spikes used with carbon fibre plates are probably to blame for better performances across track and some field events.
India I guess? I reckon per head of population they must be the worst Olympic nations by some distance. They’ve got hockey and, erm, that’s about itThe second most populous nation gets its first ever track and field gold medal.
See earlier posts - as they mention, Wells beat all the top US 100m sprinters less than two weeks later in Koblenz and one of the US athletes actually stated that Wells would have won no matter who was in Moscow.I wonder how Alan Wells felt; winning gold in Moscow but it always seemed to plague him that he only won because the USA boycotted.
