A massive night for the club

This will give us fans some more confidence in some of the new signings and also they will feel more confident as each and every one of them played their part. Even the subs.

Engel was outstanding, I’m delighted for him.

Latte Lath pace electric and great goal.

Barlaser steady all night and never gave the ball away. His best game in a Boro shirt in a league game.

Greenwood had some good moments too.

It was always going to take time. This has been quicker than I expected so I still expect form to be up and down.

But there's competition, real competition. Technically good signings who are getting better, more confident and more attuned to how we play.
.but more than anything, there was character tonight.

You can see that togetherness and confidence is building again. Early on this season we looked like individuals.

Naturally they've gotten to know each other, but we seem to be getting that spirit from last year.

We have a bright positive future, even if it doesn't work out this year.

I'm glad mcgree is back where he belongs. He's huge for us.

Barlaser showed more confidence than his previous outings and made steps forward.

Engel a real desire to prove he's a player. lath showing composure he maybe didn't before.

Greenwood showing bright sparks. Forss chomping to get back in.
Crooks was great last time out. Bangura back. All very positive.

The club's strategy is right. It was always going to be a work in progress. But these are our players now, to improve and grow.

I'm buzzing, but to add a bit of realism, the first half could've gone either way and then who knows. But we were way better than them 2nd half and it's gonna do some players the world of good, confidence wise.

Some good performances from all around the team but Hackney was class

Hayden hackney, the teesside xavi

It was an important night. Lots of the new lads slotted in very well. For them being part of the win will be very important and remind them that they have a future at the club. Carrick will feel vindicated with his early season team selections and the old gaurd will realise they have to fight for their places.

We beat a team who have won 4 on the bounce. Last week it was Southampton. We will see some more poor performances, I am sure, but we are starting to see waht Carrick has seen all summer. This is a talented bunch of lads.

How do people think Greenwood did?

I have read some mixed posts on his performance tonight but personally feel he did well. He worked the keeper a few times, linked up play but also took the wrong option when a pass to a teammate was the better option.

Am I seeing something or wanting to see something in him that wasn't there?

I would say he did well for a first start. He’s impressive when receiving the ball with a man up his backside as he waits for the touch then spins them and gets in to space and it worked a few times tonight. There was a couple of occasions where he took the wrong option but that’s understandable with his lack of football. Was quite encouraged actually but not blown away. More to come I’m sure.

Feels like he’s the type of player who can score out of nothing

People don’t realise how many first team games he has played since he went to Arsenal. He will only get better. His turn in the second half was great. Should have kept running instead of the pass which was cut out. First goal against Sunderland this weekend?

Massive save from our keeper just before half time
Key moment.
Super impressive keeper for me generally

This isn't an anti Steve Gibson post but it's a shame there isn't more money for players under Carrick. Imagine he could have access to the best players in the division like Leicester have, we'd walk the league.
