A summer of short form cricket

Is upon us.

IPL starting now.

Then it’s the World Cup T20 (again), Vitality t20 Blast followed by the Hundred. Then a T20 series in the autumn.

There are two x 3-test series sprinkled amongst it v Windies and Sri Lanka (England should crush both on home soil) but hardly any ODIs.

I think by September we’ll all be a bit bored of short form cricket. 3 winter tests in Pakistan then New Zealand is all we have now until next summer and the next away Ashes drubbing.

That bit is disappointing as I really like ODI

I agree about Sri Lanka, but the West Indies always have a chance of winning a match. I think they've won a test on each of their last 2 tours of England, and drew 1-1 in Australia this Winter.

Their problem isn't a lack of talent; it's a lack of consistency, and when it all comes together they are dangerous. However, even if they win 1, they can still get hammered in the other 2.

I quite like t20, prefer the longer game though, those test matches look like 3-4 day tests on paper sadly , though they seemed to be a improvement in the Windies againist the aussies
Yes that would be disappointing if all we have is 6 x 3 day tests against lesser opposition. Even then it doesn't start til July.

So anyone who doesn't like T20/the100 is going to have a pretty rubbish summer, cricket wise.

One good thing about the focus on IT20 cricket this year is that I am going to get to see Root playing for Yorkshire again.

He will probably have to introduce himself to most of the team as it has been quite a while since he played. I wont get into why he didnt play in our relegation deciderr a few years ago,

Good point, you should at least get to see him playing in April-May. I wonder why he opted out of the IPL?

You won't see Bairstow at all, but you should see Brook.

Both Brook and Root released for 5 games (not 1st fixture though - guess which one I have booked hotel for)

Root is also available to play Vitality Blast for Yorks but Brook will be in West Indies

The County Championship is still on. You'll have no problem getting tickets for it either.

X12 to Chester le Street, £2 for those without bus passes
I had plans to go yesterday for preseason match v university. Got up to catch the 9am ish x12 but swiftly turned back round and hunkered down in house as I was getting flashbacks to the Friday of the Yorks cc game last season where I thought I was going to catch hypothermia

I was out and about with a coat on, not a chance of sitting to watch cricket until the weather warms up.
