There are plenty of players who do not dial in performances during an entire season in the last year of their contract. I mean zenden was on a years contract his whole time here. Akpom has shown nothing other than professionalism during his time at the club. It is standard practice for a player not to play if a transfer is going through.
 
There is a difference between playing and putting in your best performance. We've only just had bids come in for him by all accounts, he wasn't even on the preseason tour.
 
All Championship golden boots have been sold or promoted in the recent years except Daryl Murphy was said on the Sky commentary today. Its the way of the world that it is extremely hard to hold a player with Chuba's record of last season. Clubs will offer to double his wage and offer a higher level of football. I would guess the clubs that looked in detail at him were over 30. Even now one might come in with a higher bid than Lens.

According to Sky Sports Sheffield Uniteds offer for Akpom is short of Boro’s valuation. He has option of either Ajax or Lens, Lens possible favourites due to Champions League football
