Akpom to Ajax

We all wish him well at Ajax.
Reading some of the posts from Ajax fans last week, they were berating the club for proposing to buy a player from the English Championship. One called Chuba a "one hit wonder". It appears some have a high opinion of themselves.
Chuba may have a tough baptism over there.
I hope he proves them all wrong, because hes a talented player - treated properly, can deliver the goods.

Great signing for them..

They may knock the Championship, but its probably tougher than the Dutch League, certainly as tough.

They are a bit stuck in their league like Celtic in Scotland, getting 50k then playing away in front of 6k. (e.g. Volendam's capacity is 6,900)

yes, a surprising deal for Ajax. They have an incredible youth programme and were way ahead of the game with links to Brasil. I have a friend who gets me in the directors box at Palmeiras occasionally. The foreign voices you here are Portuguese, Italian, Spanish .... and after that, Dutch .... Ajax also have junior links with Brasilian clubs ....

They had a 5 year gap without the title and 9 years without the cup in recent times there
yes, he is going to have to hang in there. They have only won their title 3 times in the last 5 years. The consolation for him is that he can live close to Amsterdam. I hope he likes Rijstaffel and cheese.

I'm not sure of your point really, I didn't say it wasn't a good move, just that there's no guarantee of a title while he's there like you suggested (which there isn't)

Anyone been to the Amsterdam Arena? I have heard that it's not a great stadium design for atmosphere, and that Feyenoord's Tub is much better.

I always dislike following an overseas "big" club; it feels too much like foreign fans following Liverpool or Man U. However, I'll gladly follow Chuba's progress there.
The atmosphere in the Kuip in amazing, I’ve never heard anything like it on big European nights. You can feel the stands move
Been to a few concerts in the Arena but never for a match( Feyenoord fans have been banned for years) but the atmosphere does sound very orchestrated and the locals soon turn on the team

Ajax is an unbelievable move for him in all honesty. I'd much prefer he went there than Lens. He was struggling in the Greek league not so long ago and no one would've cared if he went last summer. Some turnaround from where he was to be now signing for Ajax.

I can the impression Feyenoord are the rough/tough Dutch fans - living and working in a more brutal industrial city of Rotterdam than touristy and arty Amsterdam with its more fashionable and wealthy fans.

That’s exactly how it is 👍🏽 Probably the likes of Newcastle or Liverpool (but the industry is still very much booming) compared to Arsenal or Spurs

Just my opinion. Chuba is a top bloke, genuine and gave his all for us. But let’s step back and think about this sensibly. He was a no one before last season, didn’t score a lot in Greece on two occasions and wasn’t sought after at all. He’s had 1 good season, is 27 so years for development aren’t on his side.

He was offered a deal and agents as we know are greedy and selfish. On the back of the season he had his agent is thinking let’s take the **** as you’ve earned it, they cash in on their clients performances. We have a structure, FFP and he isn’t signing the deal on the table. That’s not going to change and we’ll be in the same position in 12 months.

We keep an unhappy player and let him leave for nowt and kiss goodbye to 12m euros with add ons. MFC is a business and Chuba is an asset, an asset we need to move on now. We cannot gamble on him walking for free in 12 months. We deserve that fee for the initial investment and time and patience we’ve put into him as well. I hope he does well but I’d put money on him not scoring anywhere near what he did last season. Iv seen it so many times.

He might live to regret this decision from a footballing perspective. Likely not from a financial one. Let’s wish him luck and move on and think, who on gods earth would have imagined that bang average player we loaned back to Greece would bank us 12m euros. It’s mental.

Every season in the championship we have to sell a big player..

er .... no guarantee of anything but, on probabilities, and I have no 'point', but, if you want to win a trophy in the Dutch league, Ajax is your best bet. In addition they have an incredible record of developing players, and selling them on. Maybe this won't apply to Chuba. Who knows? But haven't they just sold €115M for 4 players this month?

Looks like a good move. Or better than staying in the English Championship.

I am a NAC Breda fan. I hope he likes the Netherlands and moves to us in a few years.

Yes they have. Forget the Brentford / Brighton model!

I think he will continue to score goals. His whole attitude and mentality has changed. I see him having a good next 5 years in his career. Maybe we will buy him back next summer when we get promoted!

I think that Chuba has great qualities as a striker, but needs the right manager to nurture those qualities, as Michael Carrick proved to be. He won't be the same player at Ajax if there's no rapport, and charm, with the club management. I think we would all agree that our work rate increases if our line manager adopts a carrot, not the stick, approach and Carrick's approach was right for Chuba. Good luck to him and I really want him to do well at his new club.
