Akpom to Ajax

So we squeezed another few million out of the deal — can’t argue with that. If it helps us build a squad which has lacked depth and quality for several seasons then it’s not all bad news.

I think we agreed the fee with Lens and Ajax.. must have just been better for Chuba

Anyone been to the Amsterdam Arena? I have heard that it's not a great stadium design for atmosphere, and that Feyenoord's Tub is much better.

I always dislike following an overseas "big" club; it feels too much like foreign fans following Liverpool or Man U. However, I'll gladly follow Chuba's progress there.

I am so old (and my brother has lived in the Netherlands since 1973) that I have been to the Feyenoord stadium before it was renovated, and the old Ajax stadium (Stadion de Meer). Memory fading but I am sure I saw Cryuff there, and Edstron playing for PSV v Feyenoord ..... and also when there was zero crowd problems, and the Dutch refered to it as the "English disease".

and good luck to Chuba. Who wouldn't take that opportunity in his position? Champions League place most years, and a Dutch league title. Only one below Harry Kane ..... and he gets to live in the Netherlands 🇳🇱. I hope his English is up to it 😀

I think you can we Everton paid £15m for an unproven striker. We should have held out for more.

Everton have signed teenage striker Youssef Chermiti from Sporting Lisbon on a four-year deal for £15m.

The 19-year-old Portuguese forward broke through at Sporting last season, scoring three league goals and making 22 appearances in all competitions.

Really can’t predict whether he will continue his form or not but I hope he does. No point critiquing the defending in that league considering we brought one in during the summer.

But how can you fault him for wanting to go there? No champions league but that won’t be a regular thing with them.

Hope to see him do well in the Europa.

Ajax is the best club historically. If his agent uses them to get more mo ey from sheff utd and likely relegation back to the championship instead of champs league games then he is indeed a t*t

Do you think they will play him in the deeper role he was so successful in last year or as a genuine number 9?
they play pretty fluid, but they're buying him based on his performances in a deeper position. My brother in-law checked out his youtube clips from last season and said he's exactly what they need.

I've been to Amsterdam; it was full and noisy. But my visit was for the derby game against Utrecht.

Really pleased for Chuba. I thought he was as good as anyone in that position last year. When Ten Haag was putting Weghorst there for Man Utd I thought Choobs was 10x the player so really looking forward to watching him in a top class team

Lets hope he passes medical else we have a player back and no tranfer kitty. I can see why lens are annoyed with his agent. I thought chuba would be more princpled than to let his agent behave that way.
Chuba’s agent is “Elite Project Group”. They have some big name clients on their books. They must be worth a fortune and must be a nightmare to deal with! At least with Ajax being a big club we should have more chance of getting our bonuses.

3rd place and 12pts off the top last season so no guarantee of a title

We all wish him well at Ajax.
Reading some of the posts from Ajax fans last week, they were berating the club for proposing to buy a player from the English Championship. One called Chuba a "one hit wonder". It appears some have a high opinion of themselves.
Chuba may have a tough baptism over there.
I hope he proves them all wrong, because hes a talented player - treated properly, can deliver the goods.

I would have wanted £15m in an ideal world, it would probably end up £12m - its not the end of the World.

He is hard to value - his long term record is just under 1 goal in 4 games which is nothing special (mainly Championship type level too).

Hi career reminds me of Daryl Murphy who scored 27 goals in one season at Ipswich, but never repeated any thing like that. Averaged about 2 in 7 over his career.

I honestly can't remember a player changing so much in one season at the age of 27, as Chuba. It was as though someone had sprinkled magic fairy dust over him. His tally was not lucky in fact if he was not injured he would have scored 5 or 6 more in September and October.

Chuba is not an international player (preference for Nigeria) and at 28 in October he is coming toward the end of his peak year as a player. he did play 5 times for England at under 21. I can't see his value ever increasing because of his age. If had been 24 it would have been completely different.

Younger quality players in general have the potential to rise in value hence they can go for more like Scott @ Bristol City and Gyorkeres @ Coventry.
