Alex Bangura - Giles who?

For £500k seems minimal risk.

Can't be as bad a defender as Giles, but won't have his end product. If he is disciplined and buys into Carricks system, wants to improve, could be a shrewd addition.

But he's quick, and defences do not like dealing with speed. Could be like Dijksteel - quick enough to cover up for his mistakes.

Whilst I really like Ryan Giles he is not the defining signing IMO, why he is all of a sudden the merson/ramirez I dont know, yes last season he got a lot of assists but they dried up after christmas, as all defenders in the champo suspecy at times at the back!

Coulson has 1 assist already if you count pre season, yes he had things to learn but is an attacking threat and if he can work on his game which am sure he will why can he not get assists. As a wide player if you put the ball in areas in the box its the strikers job to get on the end which I believe coburn would, there is loys to be positive about and still 5 weeks till the end of the window, all our business was never going ti be done so early in the window, whos to say archer, diallo and ramsey dont all sign before the end of the window.

Good luck to ryan just like the other loans they whete not our players, now are signing players and developing the academy players thats not good enough, come on lets give thesr lads a chance

With the referees in the Championship, he’d give away more free kicks than anyone else in the league. He looks very uncultured, if that’s the right term. Very raw for a 24 year old.

Has to buy into Carricks system and be disciplined - he will have to if he comes here.

Sure the club have scouted him, looked at his skillset, play, character and are happy they can work with him and improve him - and have him plug in at LB straight away.

Looked a bit like a mis-kick / scuff though, and he was asleep for the Betis goal?

I like a back from the brink story as much as anyone, but he isn't a kid. He's a 25 year old academy product who has never been good enough.

He was too poor defensively to play consistently as a LWB for us, and too poor / inconsistent in his delivery to play as a winger. He has failed to establish himself with us for years, or on loan in League 1 or even Scotland. He also has a pretty poor record injuries wise, he has one full league season worth of appearances for us in his career by age 25, and 125 total appearances (not starts) since playing in the UEFA youth league in the 15/16 season.

There's a reason for that*.

*Cue an Akpom-esque turnaround and Coulson playing like prime Ashley Cole all season......🙏

Whether Couslon is first choice or not, we have no back up, nobody to push him, nobody to replace him if he gets an injury or form drops.

One season in the prem playing for Luton is going to kill RG's career if you ask me. No where near ready for it and playing for a team who are going to be going backwards not forwards.

Anyway over to this new guy we're linked with. No idea on who he is, but I like the clubs approach to this and sounds like he's been scouted properly.

Looking more and more likely that Coulson is going to be our first choice left back.
Surely not.

He's got a shocking football brain.

He has a trick and a bit of pace but his decision making is poor and I've rarely seen a pro footballer so bad at actually kicking a ball - passing, crossing and shooting poor.

Doesn't know how to defend properly so just dives in.

As you can probably tell, I'm not a fan 😂

Just wondering, has anyone actually seen this guy play? I mean properly - either live or even 90 minutes on tv?

We’re obviously heavily linked. He’s not expensive. I’d trust the club if they went for it.

But opinions on other threads range between “fits the bill perfectly and should start against Millwall” to “can’t defend, no better than Coulson”.

I had never heard of him until last week, certainly not seen him play. Are people basing their opinions off a quick youtube search, or more?

Hah hah, I remember Bernie Slaven saying on the commentary that he was concerned Maccarone didn’t know how to kick a ball properly!
