Alex Mowatt

I've been quite critical of Mowatt this season, but Friday he was excellent.

I do think Norwich were extremely poor, but I'm not going to take anything away from Mowatt's performance, as he was excellent.

It isn't easy coming off the bench to then try and get involved and dictate a game, but he didn't look out of place at all.

I do feel for Barlaser, but Carrick made the correct call bringing on Mowatt on Friday.

Lovely to see if Hackeny/Howson missed a game (for whatever reason), then we have a solid replacement.

For me ever since Carrick came in Mowatt has been a solid back up player and sub to come on. He has probably had more chances than Barlaser although Barlaser did get a start , Mowatt has shown more so far and looks a better player based on what they have shown in a Boro shirt. Barlaser came with high stock for creating goals for Rotherham but we do play a very different game to them.

Both valuable squad members.

I would sign him. If WBA don't go up and miss out on the play-offs I can see them offloading a number of players.
Agreed. We are light in that department. Howson is in his mid-30s, Hackney is young, Barlaser is a fairly new signing. Mowatt is experienced , knows the squad and is rated by Carrick. I actually think once Barlaser gets up to speed we could have a decent 4 midfielders - especially if we don't go up

Would be good signing if stay in this league but we wouldn’t sign him if we go up. Be a good signing for another promotion hopeful though

I hope its not a one off performance. If he plays like that every week he'll be a first team regular.

Fantastic performance topped off with a brilliant assist. Think he’s a great squad player for us. Well done son.
He played really well against a good side, and coming on at an unexpected time.

His assist for 3-0 was unreal, but he also made a vital clearance at 1-0, as well as the great tackle to win the ball back which led to our 5th goal.

If Barlaser really is unsuited/a misfit then how is he a valuable squad member?

Because he’s 4th choice and has quality he has shown at his previous club and also his assist Vs QPR. His presence will be pushing Howson and Hackney and Mowatt knew if he didn’t come on and perform well he would be pushed further down the pecking order. It’s competition for places, he’s a valuable member who hasn’t shown his best form yet but it’s only really cameo appearances he’s had and the odd start.

Not sure what’s wrong with what I said really

I was very impressed with Mowatt on Friday, he really showed his ability, his contract expires at WBA in 2024. However, It may be that WBA have told him to look for another club in order to get a fee (quite likely given they sent him on loan and didn’t recall him in January despite lack of games), if so, he will want to showcase his ability between now and the summer if called upon, which would be a positive for us.

I appreciate Barlaser is a new signing and our player, I do not know much about him at all, but from what I have seen so far, he reminds me of a poor mans Gary O’Neil (a laid back version, I hope I’m very wrong). To be fair he has had next to no game time but I am not sure his style fits the type of player we need in CM given how we play. I hope he can rise to the challenge though and do his bit.

Saying he's a poor mans Gary O'Neil is being unfair to Barlaser, Gary O'Neil was poor so where does this leave Barlaser? Why all this negativity toward him, is it because he walked off the pitch at the end of the game without acknowledging the fans on Friday?

Ah Gary O'Neil. According to one clown on the old board, he was going to challenge Gerrard and Lampard for the England jersey.

I think fans look into body language and he does have a poor body language on the pitch, doesn’t mean he doesn’t care or isn’t trying but when he’s actually not shown much as of yet then fans will vent their opinions. I have not seen anyone write him off yet but he does need to show more when he gets his next chance.

He’s probably in a bit of limbo too because If we get promoted he will probably be wondering what’s going to happen to him on an individual basis

Agreed. It might not be an eye catching signing, but it's the sort of signing that wins you more matches than you realise.

You need match winners but you also need experienced pros with a bit of quality.

How crucial were Leadbitter and Clayton for us? Neither premier League quality, neither huge signings to get excited about at the time, but they set the platform for everything else. 7 out of 10 week in week out, do nothing daft and control the game. Feels like Mowatt is that sort of player and would be that sort of signing.

😂😂😂. Was that on the map?

He may end up being a better manager than those 2. Doing very well at Bournemouth to be fair to him. If he keeps them up it’s remarkable
