American reworkings of British TV

Series 1 of the American Office wasn't very good.
They tried to copy the original almost scene for scene and it didn't work.
From Series 2 onwards they did their own thing and it was great.
Agreed, season 2 onwards was brilliant.
Dwight has to be one of the all time great comic characters.

I wouldn't go that far, it was watchable though. It's not often you can say that about American television.

Funnily enough I was watching a documentary on Saturday night about Fawlty Towers and they said they tried to remake it under 3 different guises in the USA and everyone failed miserably

I've never watched it myself, but I believe the US Shameless was pretty successful and popular.
It’s very good after the first couple of episodes. It’s very gritty (dealing with suicides and liver failure etc) not played for laughs so much like ours.
William H Macy is brilliant in it.
