Aynsley Pears

I rated Aynsley, obviously Warnock didn’t, but he was better than the other keepers Warnock brought into replace him. Confidence took a battering when he was bullied against Forest just before the pandemic. Pleased to Steele doing ok for Brighton, but as witnessed against Everton on Monday Brighton need better.

We have a few hero-critics who compete to be the first to write a player off, as if the depth of their insight can be measured by how scathing they are.

Keepers mature more slowly than other players; writing off a keeper at 21 is the equivalent of writing off an outfield player at 17: you'd be a fool to do it.

I saw a lot of Pears games for u23's and maybe because of how good I thought his dad was, I never expected him to be boro's no 1 keeper.

He was allays very quick to blame his defenders, hut never really tried to organise his back 4 in open play.

Had a decent season for Blackburn, but he's not big enough physically, even now.

Pleased he's got a new contract, he's earned it.

He looked a lot more commanding in the two matches at the Riverside this season. But he was still a kid when he broke through for us after Randolph was sold. Criminal that Warnock chased him really.

Was that not town to his dad being involved in training and telling he should be starting?
