b***r. NZ back in lock down.

We hit 2.5 million vaccines given today, that half the population. We haven't been able to get the vaccine in large amounts as we donymt make it here, have no clout, and are just a tiny island in the Pacific
If you think we have it bad, what about the countries in Africa that have no chance of getting the vaccibecbecause first world countries are keeping back large amounts for booster vaccs

Hope it doesn't get down south because judging from the people I know, there's an awful lot of people who are anti vax!

It's a bit regional, some round here but the majority are for it and this region is ahead of target , Nelson Tasman .
Be Interesting to see how many are anti vax when we get through this lockdown, whenever that may be

Just looked at the stats. Wow.

A total of less than 3000 cases with a population of not far under 5 million people.

Does New Zealand have financial support schemes in place like we did over here, furlough, grants, bounce back loans etc?

Disgrace that the vaccines haven't been distributed there.
What the hell are you on about, you clearly know nothing about the situation here. We have enough vaccines to do the entire NZ population. Mine was booked for tomorrow, but will have to be postponed now.
And our lockdown is for 3 days for most of the country and 87 days in Auckland and Coromandel, which is where our 1 (and only 1) positive community case visited.
As I said it's 1 case, but given the success of our go hard go early Covid response this is the way the Govt deals with it, lockdown straight away to stop it spreading, like it had in so many countries like...England!
The only disgrace really is that people make stupid, ill informed comments.

Yes they will kick in. The govt will pay i0 percent if your wage, and ask that your employer top up.

If your business is also affected by lockdowns, you are able to apply for a grant, but have to prove that it has affected, will affect your business by a certain percent.

I said distributed, not supplied.

Personally I think it's irresponsible senseless hand grenade politics to lockdown with one case. Like other diseases the world will have to learn to live with Covid eventually. But each to their own.

Fair enough, thats your opinion, which may also be the opinion if others, but its how we handle it here and it's been quite effective

Well personally I think it's irresponsible senseless hand grenade politics to lockdown with one case. Like other diseases the world will have to learn to live with Covid eventually. But each to their own.
Colin, again your ignorance is astounding. NZ is in the situation it is in (our Covid response has been hailed around the world as one of, if not the best, to the virus) exactly because our Govt has reacted very quickly to cases.
The alternative was to do what places like England did and faff about until lots of people died (so how did that work out for England again?).
So for the past year or so while you've been in lockdown after lockdown, bemoaning the fact that you can't go to see the footy or to the pub with yer mates we've been living in virtual total freedom in comparison.
I've been to concert with 10,000 people, sporting events with more than 30,000+ people while you've been stuck at home because of the inept handling of the situation over there.
I know which approach I'd rather have my government take, and judging by the number of people that want to come here, so would many others.
And please, do a bit of research before you give you opinions.
Your initial comment was that it was a disgrace vaccines hadn't been distributed here. That was shown to be complete tosh so you come back with some inane comment about hand grenade politics being used. I think you need to look at your own leaders about that one.

I hope as many of the population as possible are vaccinated soon so the long term opening up strategy becomes a possibility.
