b***r. NZ back in lock down.

Colin, again your ignorance is astounding. NZ is in the situation it is in (our Covid response has been hailed around the world as one of, if not the best, to the virus) exactly because our Govt has reacted very quickly to cases.
The alternative was to do what places like England did and faff about until lots of people died (so how did that work out for England again?).
So for the past year or so while you've been in lockdown after lockdown, bemoaning the fact that you can't go to see the footy or to the pub with yer mates we've been living in virtual total freedom in comparison.
I've been to concert with 10,000 people, sporting events with more than 30,000+ people while you've been stuck at home because of the inept handling of the situation over there.
I know which approach I'd rather have my government take, and judging by the number of people that want to come here, so would many others.
And please, do a bit of research before you give you opinions.
Your initial comment was that it was a disgrace vaccines hadn't been distributed here. That was shown to be complete tosh so you come back with some inane comment about hand grenade politics being used. I think you need to look at your own leaders about that one.
What % of the population has been vaccinated?

We have had 3 national lockdowns - how many has NZ had? Do you reckon this will be the last with such strong reaction to cases?

I said distributed, not supplied.

Personally I think it's irresponsible senseless hand grenade politics to lockdown with one case. Like other diseases the world will have to learn to live with Covid eventually. But each to their own.
Its that irresponsibility from their government that has caused less than 50 deaths whilst we have 130k, countless with long covid and millions waiting for NHS treatment. Think I know which government I would rather live under

As I said previously, 2.5 mil given, with just under 1 mill having both doses.

Will this be our last lock down, who knows, I doubt it, but we have seen what happens if we do it early, and a full lock down not just playing at it, so people over here in the main totally understand and support it

Interesting how NZ is presented as lockdown nation when that is far from the truth.
Even I fell for that propaganda. Didn't realise they had only had 2 lockdowns.

I guess the situation will change now but have just had to cancel my holiday to Singapore. They are literally only allowing 2 full countries in at the moment. One is new Zealand. Which goes to show how well they have controlled the virus

We hit 2.5 million vaccines given today, that half the population. We haven't been able to get the vaccine in large amounts as we donymt make it here, have no clout, and are just a tiny island in the Pacific
If you think we have it bad, what about the countries in Africa that have no chance of getting the vaccibecbecause first world countries are keeping back large amounts for booster vaccs
Why aren’t the UK sending you any?

Hopefully not, it's only one case and hopefully they caught it in time.

I didn't realise that we had the reputation of the lockdown country! In the south I've been locked down totally for the weeks last year, then a week each at level 3 and 2 and I think a couple more weeks at level 1.until tonight.

It is plain that NZ have handled things well.
It is equally plain to see they had a far easier opportunity to do so.
It is what it is.

There have been 965 deaths in the whole of Australia, with 820 of them in Victoria.
The rest of Australia inc NSW is on a par with NZ yet there isn't the same lauding of them, despite Australia being a much more developed nation and more internationally connected.

I disagree. I hear of Oz being lauded just as much as NZ. and rightly so. I think, though I may be wrong, their vaccination program isn't as advanced though?
